Dear Bungie: An open letter to the developers of Halo 3

Dearest Bungie:
I realize that this may or may not make me sound like a broken record, but Halo 3’s matchmaking system is broken. No, not simply flawed or a little borked but full-blown broken.
11 commentsDevil May Cry 4 Downloaded 1 Million Times

It seems that everyone and their mother (a statement usually reserved for the Wii) is rushing to download the demo for Devil May Cry 4 off of XBox Live. It has now been downloaded over 1 million times and doesn’t show signs of slowing down according to a press release we received from Capcom. This makes the demo one of the fastest to reach that number in the history of LIVE with an average of 25,000 downloads a day since it went live on Jan. 24. That be a lot of downloading.
In case you’re worried all these people downloading the demo aren’t buying the game, Capcom also informs us that the game is selling like some sort of cake that is hot, with plenty of retailers calling in reorders within days of the game’s release. It looks like Dante’s still got ‘it’ or maybe it’s that dreamy new guy, Nero. Well because, you know, they look so different and all.
10 commentsPenny Arcade Adventures gameplay videos
A couple of months ago, Hothead games announced that they would be developing a Penny Arcade game that would release as an Xbox Live Arcade title, called Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. Game Trailers has posted three new gameplay videos (the other two are after the jump) up for all to see. These videos show off the comic and cartoonish look of the game, as well as the exciting turn based gameplay that’s in the style of Chrono Trigger. Look out for this game in the first quarter of 2008.
4 commentsSuit Filed Against Microsoft Over Xbox Live Outage

It seems that the massive outages and problems that we’ve been facing as a gaming community on Xbox Live have finally landed the massive corporation into a bit of legal trouble.
According to an article from CNET News, three Texas residents have filed a lawsuit on their behalf and others who have had issues with Xbox Live in the excess of 5 million dollars.
From the arcticle:
In the suit, the plaintiffs allege that Microsoft should have known strong holiday sales would tax its servers. “Microsoft knew the increase in subscriptions would increase game-play on its servers, yet failed to provide adequate access and service to Xbox Live and its subscribers.”
It sounds like they might actually have a case against Microsoft. What makes me wonder is why there hasn’t been a class-action lawsuit brought up for everyone who’s upset about this inconvenience.
In an attempt to appease the Xbox Live members and to save face from their latest fiasco Microsoft has told the community that it would allow Xbox subscribers a free game to download. Though what that game is and when we can download it remains a mystery.

4 commentsMicrosoft Will Make It Up To You

The Bitbag is reporting that Microsoft will somehow be making up for the Live outage last week. No word as to how Gold Members will be apologized to but a representative from Microsoft said, “…we will definitely be doing something for our Gold members that weren’t able to get online over the last week.” Seems like a pretty good deal and makes that Gold Membership even more worthwhile, aside from that tiny online multiplayer perk.
I wonder what it will be. I’m thinking they’ll send a guy dressed as Master Chief to everyone’s homes to give them a hug, but more likely they’ll just hand out a few downloads for free. Here’s to hoping for Master Chief hugs for all!
7 commentsBurnout Paradise demo now up on XBL & PSN

Last week we brought news that the Burnout Paradise demo would be coming soon for Xbox Live and Playstation Network. Today is that day! Racing fans rejoice; the next game in the action-racing series Burnout is only mere weeks away! For now, download the demo on Xbox Live or Playstation Network and get a peek of one of the most fun racing games ever made.
5 commentsNew Halo maps are up on Xbox Live!

A couple of weeks ago, we brought news that new downloadable maps were coming for one of the best shooters of the year, Halo 3. Earlier today, the maps went up on Xbox Live for a price of 800 MS points. The three maps are detailed below:
* The symmetrical valley of Standoff, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types.
* The vast, labyrinthine passages of the Rat’s Nest bring something completely new to the multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise. Strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, this map is ideal for big team battles.
* Foundry is the ultimate Forge map. Players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, placing stairways, walls, bridges, and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map imaginable.
While 800 MS points (or $10) may seem like a lot for three maps that will be available in a couple of months, hardcore Halo fans, such as myself, won’t be able to resist.
9 commentsDante or Nero? Devil May Cry 4 demo coming early 2008

Earlier today, Capcom shot us a quick email highlighting the fact that Devil May Cry 4, a possible killer-app coming next year for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, will be getting an Xbox Live and Playstation Network demo earlier in the year. While the demo is not explicitly dated as of now, you can expect it to hit XBL and PSN in late January or early February, as the game is loosely slated for a February 2008 release. The demo promises to offer players a taste of the full game, like all demos should, including the different gothic locales that the game takes place in as well as the fighting style of the new protagonist, Nero.
Intrigued? You know I am. Hit the jump for the full release.
5 commentsTakedown! Burnout Paradise demo coming Dec. 13

The next addition to everyone’s favorite unrealistic racing game, Burnout Paradise, is getting a demo on Xbox Live and Playstation Network in a little more than a week. According to Criterion’s site, the demo will drop in a little more than seven days and nine hours on the 13th of December.
I can honestly say that the Burnout series is possibly one of my favorite series ever, and most certainly my favorite racing genre series ever. There is just nothing like taking down your opponents only a couple hundred feet from the checkered flag and watching them tumble through the air before exploding into a thousand pieces. The first real jump for Burnout into the next generation with Paradise will truly be a welcome addition to my, and many other fans’, gaming collections.
