“Here we are again with another cash cow being brought out to graze. Is it a bad thing?”
Review: Battle of the Bands (Wii)

After owning a Wii for a little over a year now, and playing a fair amount of the absolutely horrid titles available on the system, I initially had very low hopes for Battle of the Bands, Planet Moon Studios and THQ’s entry into the recent hit rhythm-music game genre. However, the track record for rhthym games on the Wii has been and looks to be very solid, what with Guitar Hero III already released and the upcoming Rock Band and Samba de Amigo to release on the system later in the year. How does Battle of the Bands fit into the equation? Quite messily, in fact.
4 commentsReview: Turok

I was a huge fan of the Turok series for the N64 when I was younger. Dinosaurs and guns always made a great mix in video games. When I first heard that Propaganda Games was doing a Turok game for the Xbox 360 (PS3 and PC, also), I became very excited…until I remembered the failure that was Turok: Evolution. I started tracking the game and getting hyped up for it thanks to multiple screenshots and videos. As the release for the game came closer and closer, I became very mixed with my views on the game. Would it suck, or would it be just as awesome as the N64 games were?

18 commentsReview: MX vs. ATV Untamed (DS & 360)

Let’s face it: most multiplatform games are bound to have insanely bad handheld versions. I can’t recall one time I was blown away by a multiplatform games’s handheld spawn. MX vs. ATV Untamed for the Nintendo DS definitely applies to this theory.
Read on for the review of this poor port.
9 commentsWeekly Retro Review: Kirby’s Avalanche (SNES)

In this week’s retro review (and I do mean weekly, despite the absence of the article for the past couple of weeks), we’re taking a look at one of the four Kirby games to be released on the Super Nintendo, Kirby’s Avalance.
[Note: Kirby's Avalance is not to be confused with Super Puyo Puyo or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, which was released on the Sega Genisis. Kirby's Avalance was basically a clone of Super Puyo Puyo featuring Kirby characters, while Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was a clone of Super Puyo Puyo featuring Sonic characters. DO NOT get these 3 confused as they are indeed different games.]
3 commentsWWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 (360) Review

[Editor's Note: Here at MEGATONik, we value video games as a special, interactive entertainment medium, one that is different from almost any other form of entertainment out there. This is why we have decided to leave it up to the discretion of the editor whether or not to include concrete numerical scores with each review that we do. I, for one, have decided not to include a solidified numerical value in my review, as I do not believe that this type of game merits a number. - backflip]
When first asked to review WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 for the Xbox 360, I was hesitant. Not because I was afraid Mark Henry would bear hug me, but because I had not, since the days of WCW vs. NWO: World Tour for the Nintendo 64, spent very much time with the wrestling game genre. I’ve been around the proverbial block quite a few times in terms of video game genres, just not as much with wrestling. However, I did give the game a solid block of my time, not to mention an indian rug-burned arm and broken leg, to convince me to return to the sport of wrestling.
How did the game fare against my oiled up six-pack and pristine pectorals? Hit the jump to find out.
4 commentsSuper Mario Galaxy, greatest game EVER

Looks like Super Mario Galaxy is the highest rated game ever. Well, at least on Game Rankings. The game beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time by .2 points, with the rating of an amazing 97.8%, based on 30 reviews. While The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was based off of 31 reviews, I doubt it even matters seeing on how the media is treating this amazing gem. The media, minus lawl, of course.
10 commentsReview: Zoo Hospital

I’ve never gotten a chance to play a game like Trauma Center before, so this whole hospital feeling is brand spanking new to me. After playing Zoo Hospital, however, I’m not so sure if all hospital sims are like this. And I really, REALLY, pray that they all aren’t.

18 commentsReview: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is a fantastic addition to the Zelda series. In fact, this may be the greatest DS game I’ve played all year, and I am very confident to say it probably will take that title when the year is over. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass has amazed me with its superb graphics, great detail, extremely fun gameplay, and its overall fun.
I honestly love this game. Read on to find out why.
7 commentsFamitsu Reviews Super Mario Galaxy

“The game takes place in a 3D space where you could be walking on the ground or upside down. Normally that would look like it is difficult to control, but you can play this instinctively. The balance is just perfect and it is a game anyone can really play.
Gimmicks and actions using the game’s unique gravity, and fun boss fights definitely delivers on the Mario name. It is even just fun to watch if you are not playing.
The game’s pacing is very good, you get hooked more and more. I am glad that the game is not too easy or too difficult. Collecting the star piece by pointing the Wiimote is already fun in itself.
The excitement of Mario 64 is back! Lots of features that are perfect for the Wii, and you get addicted wanting to know what kind of obstacles await you in the next stage. Difficulty gradually increases and the map layout is great. Every game fan should play this game.”
It looks like the Japanese love the game already, but how will the US (excluding the Nintendo fanboys who are probably already saying this game is going to be amazing) see it? Super Mario Galaxy arrives in North America on November 12, while Japan gets it 10 days earlier.
