Cheap Games for Trying Times: Burnout Paradise

Since its release in early 2008, Criterion’s Burnout Paradise has quietly become one of the best values in gaming.
No commentsHow do I avoid the red ring of death? Buy a PS3. But seriously, folks…

I admit, in the last two years I’ve cracked more than my share of Playstation 3 jokes. For the first year of its life, it seemed to me to be a more expensive system that played mostly games that appeared on the 360; more of a status symbol than an actual game console. Which was probably a result of the fact that it seemed targeted at a very specific entertainment demographic—people with expensive home theaters and HD televisions—a group that I decidedly did not belong to.
So, I played Bioshock on the 360. I played Call of Duty 4 on the 360. I played Grand Theft Auto IV on the 360. I could have played Fallout 3 on the 360. So, why did I choose to get a PS3? Well, there are a couple of reasons. First is that my girlfriend and I are avid gamers, and there is something to be said about having all available major platforms. That said, many of the great games on the PS3 can be found on the 360. There are a few games—like LittleBigPlanet and Resistance: Fall of Man—that I really wanted to play, but with the economy the way it is right now, a handful of great exclusives isn’t really enough to make me want a new system.
So, why the Playstation 3?
7 commentsRumor: Sony to show God of War 3 at E3?

Just a quick little post here to make sure everyone knows that there is a very good chance that Sony will be debuting the next installment in the hit action-adventure series, God of War, at E3 this year, according to Eurogamer. And why wouldn’t they? Microsoft has already announced its AAA title, Gears of War 2, for the upcoming holiday season. Sony needs to give its fans something to put on their Christmas lists this year as well. As for me? I need to get my ass in gear and play God of War II…

Another Thursday, another Playstation Store update … and another disappointment. Honestly, there’s nothing worth mentioning coming out this week, nothing. Yes, there are new Nine Inch Nails songs for Rock Band and new No Doubt (?) downloadable content for Guitar Hero III, but other than that it’s slim pickin’s.
Check the full list of downloadable content, trailers and videos after the jump.
5 commentsSony announces MGS4 PS3 bundle

Yes, yet another announcement from our dear friends, Sony. Following the previous three announcements, Sony also announced today that along with the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, they will be releasing a PS3 bundle including an 80GB PS3, a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4, and a DualShock 3 controller all for the price of $499. All of this will be coming in the latter half of the second quarter this year. If you haven’t had the chance to purchase a Playstation 3 yet, this would be a good opportunity to do so.
Alright, I’m officially done posting new Sony news for the day. I don’t even want to hear the word Sony for the next few days. I’m now very grouchy. So, leave me alone ya wankers!
5 commentsDualShock 3 dated and priced for US

In addition to Sony’s recent vague announcement of a release date for Metal Gear Solid 4, the company has also dated and priced their upcoming DualShock 3 controller for the Playstation 3. The controller, which features rumble (a feature left out in the creation of the Sixaxis), is set to drop for $54.99 in April of 2008. That’s right PS3 owners! Only another two or so months to wait until we can finally kill terrorists with added rumble!
5 commentsMetal Gear Solid 4 gets a vague release date

Following the announcement that Phil Harrison is resigning from Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony has finally named a vague release date for their upcoming killer app, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The game is set to drop in late Q2 2008, with a special bonus to those who pre-order it, a guaranteed entrance into the multiplayer beta for Metal Gear Online, scheduled for April.
Wow, I am so ready for this!
7 commentsFar Cry coming to the 360 and PS3…sometime in the next two years

Ubisoft has announced today that Far Cry 2 is becoming multiplatform, and heading to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The sequel to the original 2004 PC game will release on the PC at the end of the first quarter of 2008, while the console versions will be releasing sometime in the very broad timeline of 2008-2009. Ubisoft Montreal is now in charge of the Far Cry sequel, instead of Crytek, and will be sure to do a bang up job of dealing with the game by impressing up with the bright graphics the original game gave us.
Microsoft isn’t a stranger to the Far Cry series, as Far Cry: Instincts and its other games has appeared on both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox. It’s just too bad that Far Cry 2 cannot appear on the Wii, as Far Cry: Vengeance did…
1 commentAssassin’s Creed Sells 2.5 Million, Expected to Break 5 Million

The numbers have come in from Ubisoft, and it’s official. Assassin’s Creed is the “fastest-selling new video game IP in US history”. Despite many of the mediocre reviews and glitches in the game (such as the broken legged horse), Assassin’s Creed has sold over 2.5 million copies globally. Ubisoft is now expecting to sell 5 million copies of the game before the company’s fiscal year ends in March 2008. According to Ubisoft the title has “greatly outstripped” its expected sales (no kidding?).

4 commentsTasty: Jade Raymond’s game goes gold

If you’ve ever met me, or read anything that I’ve written about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed (PS3, X360), you’d know about my *huge* crush on the game’s producer, Jade Raymond. Well, now that Assassin’s Creed has officially gone gold, I’ve finally mustered up the courage to ring my sweetie on the phone. The only thing is, I can’t seem to find her phone number anywhere. Each time I google “Jade Raymond phone number,” a message keeps coming up telling me that this information is “restricted” to me, due to “Restraining Order B378576.” What’s a restraining order? Does that mean that my love for Jade can no longer be restrained?
All faux legal action against me aside, hit the jump for the official press release.
