Marvel Versus Capcom 2 Finally releases on PSN Tomorrow “Gonna take you for a….”

mvscap21August 13th, roughly two weeks after the similar Xbox Live release (Fuel for the console wars).   While I waited it out simply to use the more responsive D-Pad on the PS3 controllers…this sort of staggered release is rather bogus, especially for a download title.   According to JC Fletcher (as the link he posted to the evidence as of this post is no longer available) what  PSN users are going to receive in compensation is an exclusive boxed retail package which “will release on August 13 for $19.99 ($5 more than the cost of the game) and include a redemption code (obviously), a DVD case, a disc containing exclusive wallpapers and other media, an 8-page manual, one month of free access to Marvel Digital Comics, and 2,000 Capcom Unity points, which are used on the Capcom site to participate in auctions.”   I have been hearing this information floating around ever since Gamestop originally listed it in thier computers.

Update via my co-worker T Collins: “The Retail box only has the game code and 1 month of Marvel Digital comics. Everything else was taken out. But they lowered the price to 14.99″

Never drink and fight massive space aliens.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all! Evidently Nintendo doesn’t celebrate the holiday as none of the games released on the VC today endorse drinking till you vomit and then rallying and drinking again. But never here I’m here to help. I am 100 percent positive that we can get two really good drinking games out of Spelunker (NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points) and SUPER R-TYPE (Super NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points).

So let’s see. If you want to get totally trashed you can drink whenever you’re in a cave while playing Spelunker, since you’re always exploring caves though this might require a 40 strapped to one hand and some pretty amazing single handed game playing. Maybe we can scale it back a bit, especially since Super R-Type is a great shooter and you’ll probably want to appreciate it a bit. A shot after each amazing boss might work, though not sure how far you’ll get playing that way. But beating the game isn’t the point, getting plastered is. So download, drink and be merry.

Drinking games go live at 9 p.m. Pacific time. Hit the jump for the press release. Do you think someone at Nintendo was a bit drink already? Look at all those random question marks.

Well Nintendo didn’t want to take too much fanfare away from our site redesign so this week they’re only delivering unto us one game, Super Turrican (Super NES®, 1 player, Rated E 10+ for Everyone 10 and Older – Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points). Just when we’ve started to accept two games a week as the norm Nintendo goes ahead and drops down to one game once again. Of course it doesn’t really matter since Brawl is coming out at the end of the week and that’s all anyone is going to be playing anyway. If you need a game to tide you over till then you could do far worse then Super Turrican. I vaguely remember it being pretty fun and having a good variety of weapons and levels. Take this with a grain of salt though as my childhood memories of the Bill and Ted game on the NES were also fond and we all know that they shouldn’t be. But the enemy’s name is “the Machine” so it can’t be all bad. Now if only one of the weapons was called “the Rage,” then once you got to the boss you could use Rage against the Machine…I’m so sorry for that. Hit the jump for the full release.

Will There Be VC On Your PS3?

February 13th, 2008 | Category: Magazines, PSN, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Sony

Jeeze PS3, lose some weight. Fatty McFats Alot.

That’s a pretty sensationalist headline up there, so let me take a step back and say, no there won’t be any Nintendo games on your PS3. There is good news though for those of you who thought your PS2 gaming days were over on your new PS3, after Sony announced that they were pretty much abandoning backwards compatability in hopes of lowering the PS3’s price point a bit more. In an interview with EGM, PlayStation Network director Eric Lempell hints that there are ways that PS2 games may still be playable on the PS3.

When asked if the PS3 was going to offer PS2 games through the Playstation Store, Lempel responded, “We haven’t talked about that yet, but there are possibilities through technology and software emulation to make that possibles.” The problem, from what I can gather, is that you can’t just plug in and play the game on the PS3. Special things would need to be done to make PS2 games work (special things that can’t be done with original Playstation games at all) on the PS3. In the end, we’d be getting charged for a library of games we probably already own and could play for free on any PS3 with backward compatability. I guess something is better than nothing, but at this point this is another place where the massive technological leaps the PS3 took is hindering more than helping.

Devil May Cry 4 Downloaded 1 Million Times

February 12th, 2008 | Category: Demo, Microsoft, Sales, Xbox 360, Xbox Live

There can be only one! Man I love me some Highlander. Not the crappy TV show but the movies. Well at least the first one, and the second wasn’t too bad. They kind of started to go really down hill after that. Wasn’t there a professional wrestler in the last one. Anyway, I’m rambling, it happens. But, old school Highlander = Badass. I’m using badass a lot.

It seems that everyone and their mother (a statement usually reserved for the Wii) is rushing to download the demo for Devil May Cry 4 off of XBox Live. It has now been downloaded over 1 million times and doesn’t show signs of slowing down according to a press release we received from Capcom. This makes the demo one of the fastest to reach that number in the history of LIVE with an average of 25,000 downloads a day since it went live on Jan. 24. That be a lot of downloading.

In case you’re worried all these people downloading the demo aren’t buying the game, Capcom also informs us that the game is selling like some sort of cake that is hot,  with plenty of retailers calling in reorders within days of the game’s release. It looks like Dante’s still got ‘it’ or maybe it’s that dreamy new guy, Nero. Well because, you know, they look so different and all.

This will fit.

Oh, Hai guys! Remember when Nintendo was all up with releasing three games a week for the VC? Yea, that was great, wasn’t it? We’d laugh, cry, share fond memories and hug it out a bit as we downloaded three new games every week. But those times are over it seems as once again Nintendo has shortchanged us by releasing only two games this week. Those games are ADVENTURES OF LOLO 2 (NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points) and SUPER STREET FIGHTER™ II: THE NEW CHALLENGERS (Super NES®, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen - Violence, 800 Wii Points).

Nintendo says that they’re offering you the chance to truly decide if you’re the kind of person who solves problems with thought or fists, but I say they’re offering you two decent games that don’t really make up for the lack of the third. The Adventures of Lolo 2 is decent puzzling fun (from what little I’ve played of it) and any Street Fighter is good Street Fighter, especially one that adds Cammy into the large thighed mix, but really these two games are begging for a third one to round them out. What if I like to solve my problems with blazing guns or PK Fire (hint, f*cking hint, Nintendo)?

Games will be at the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time for your downloading pleasure. Hit the jump to read the full press release.

Free Game is Free. Undertow is Microsoft’s Apology

January 18th, 2008 | Category: Failure, Microsoft, XBLA, Xbox 360, Xbox Live

As reported before Microsoft is handing out a free game to make up for all that trouble Xbox LIVE being so popular over the holiday season caused. Today it was revealed that that free game will be Undertow which is an underwater shooter where you shoot things…underwater. Can you tell I’m not that excited? Sure it is a free game but does it really make up for all the problems if it’s a free game that you don’t want to download?

Anyway, if you want to get your hands on this all Xbox LIVE members (Gold and Silver) around the world will have access to the game beginning next Wednesday, 2 a.m. PST through Sunday, 11:59 p.m. PST. If you already own the game you can contact customer support and get your 800 points back that way.

Brain Assplode!

Ahhh, the last time I will type the year 07. What shall I do to celebrate? Well, according to Nintendo’s press release I should download the three new VC titles for the week and play videogames all night. Normally this would sound like a good plan, but on New Year’s Eve? I guess since both Bubble Bobble (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points) and Top Hunter (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and older-Cartoon Violence, 900 Wii Points) are multiplayer you could at least have some fun with other people but playing Light Crusader (Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Animated Violence, 800 Wii Points) by yourself on New Year’s Eve should not even be an option no matter how much you love using “your best combination of brains and brawn to save the kingdom.”

Now then, if it wasn’t New Year’s Eve and I didn’t have a fancy dinner with a toast to attend and friends to be around I would totally be downloading Bubble Bobble as that is some fun bubble action - a statement you can make surprisingly often in the world of videogames. I’d also give Light Crusader a try since it’s Treasure’s only RPG and with the option of playing as either Roddy or Cathy Top Hunter could really shine as a game where you can play as either Roddy or Cathy.

All games are live at 9 a.m. pacific time. The entire New Year’s Eve extravaganza (read: Press release) is after the jump.

WordJong, a game that really calls out for me

November 13th, 2007 | Category: DS, Nintendo, Press release, Puzzle, Upcoming Games

I’ve pretty much grown a weakspot for puzzle games in the past few weeks, especially after picking up Meteos: Disney Magic. I came across WordJong, one of the best selling downloadable online games of all time. I decided to check the game out myself. WordJong, developed by Destineer, is pretty much an extreme version of Scrabble that’s being ported to the Nintendo DS with a ton of added features and Wi-Fi. This excites me quite a bit, seeing on how I’m loving the puzzle genre lately and I’m a huge fan of Scrabble, yet I never have friends to play it with (Wi-Fi totally solves this problem).

Be sure to stay tuned for my review of the game as soon as it comes out later this week. Read on for the press release.
