Marvel Versus Capcom 2 Finally releases on PSN Tomorrow “Gonna take you for a….”
August 13th, roughly two weeks after the similar Xbox Live release (Fuel for the console wars). While I waited it out simply to use the more responsive D-Pad on the PS3 controllers…this sort of staggered release is rather bogus, especially for a download title. According to JC Fletcher (as the link he posted to the evidence as of this post is no longer available) what PSN users are going to receive in compensation is an exclusive boxed retail package which “will release on August 13 for $19.99 ($5 more than the cost of the game) and include a redemption code (obviously), a DVD case, a disc containing exclusive wallpapers and other media, an 8-page manual, one month of free access to Marvel Digital Comics, and 2,000 Capcom Unity points, which are used on the Capcom site to participate in auctions.” I have been hearing this information floating around ever since Gamestop originally listed it in thier computers.

Update via my co-worker T Collins: “The Retail box only has the game code and 1 month of Marvel Digital comics. Everything else was taken out. But they lowered the price to 14.99″

1 commentLost Planet Only $5 on Steam This Weekend

Hey, kids! Bored this weekend? Got a PC handy? If so, you may be interested to know Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions is available on Steam for $5. This is a great prce for this game, and it’s definitely worth a shot at $5 dollars. Give it a go, and leave some feedback if you like (or despise) the game!

1 commentReview: Rocketmen: Axis of Evil (XBLA)

When it comes to purchasing Xbox Live Arcade games, I am always quite frugal. Personally, I won’t pick up an XBLA game that is anything short of stellar. (I like to save my money for the big retail games … and booze, too, I guess.) Unsurprisingly, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil is one of those games that I would not buy … never in a hundred years.
Why is Rocketmen so utterly horrendous? Hit the jump for the rest of my review!
1 comment‘Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles’ Hits 1 Million

Somone forgot to tell Capcom that third party titles aren’t selling well on the Wii. We just got word that Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles has shipped 1 million units worldwide in a little over three months time. This makes the second million seller for Capcom on the Wii, the first being the Wii version of Resident Evil 4, which is by far one of the best ports the Wii has recieved. Capcom also brought us the cult hit Zack and Wiki for the Wii so it looks like they’re doing pretty well on the Big N’s system. Guess it does pay off to actually think about the games you bring out for the Wii, even if they are simply ports.
It’s heartening to see a third party doing well on the Wii even if it’s with the same franchise. Hopefully, we’ll start getting more and more press releases like this from third party Wii developers. It would be especially awesome if they were about WiiWare games.
1 commentThe Hype Machine: Looking Back at Febuary

If there is one thing I’ll remember last year for, it will be the games that did not live up to their hype. From the severe disappointments like Lair to the semi-successful like Bioshock (yea, I said semi), games are costing more and thus requiring more and more hype from the PR people. Many times this results in more and more disappointments from the gamer. With their hopes built up over months of teasers, previews, and interviews with attractive game developers only to find that he or she has in their hands a disc comprised mostly of suck. What is a poor gamer to do?
Well this year I’m not going to take it! Actually, yes, yes I am going to take it. But, like any good journalist, I’m not going to take it without commenting on it. Therefore I bring you “The Hype Machine,” a monthly feature that will discuss the top three most hyped games (as I perceive them). Every month I will discuss these games and the hype behind them. In the next month’s feature, we’ll see if the games lived up to the hype via the general opinion of the Internet along with the next top five games. I’ll also try to discuss a game or two I feel isn’t getting the hype it needs. Sounds like fun…or a lot of work.
Welcome to the first full month of this wondering series. Let’s all come together and take a look at the games we were all excited about at the beginning of February and see if they really deserved all the hype around them. Hit the jump to see what was good, what was bad, and if we can ever truly trust marketing and the internet.
6 commentsDevil May Cry 4 Downloaded 1 Million Times

It seems that everyone and their mother (a statement usually reserved for the Wii) is rushing to download the demo for Devil May Cry 4 off of XBox Live. It has now been downloaded over 1 million times and doesn’t show signs of slowing down according to a press release we received from Capcom. This makes the demo one of the fastest to reach that number in the history of LIVE with an average of 25,000 downloads a day since it went live on Jan. 24. That be a lot of downloading.
In case you’re worried all these people downloading the demo aren’t buying the game, Capcom also informs us that the game is selling like some sort of cake that is hot, with plenty of retailers calling in reorders within days of the game’s release. It looks like Dante’s still got ‘it’ or maybe it’s that dreamy new guy, Nero. Well because, you know, they look so different and all.
10 commentsDante or Nero? Devil May Cry 4 demo coming early 2008

Earlier today, Capcom shot us a quick email highlighting the fact that Devil May Cry 4, a possible killer-app coming next year for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, will be getting an Xbox Live and Playstation Network demo earlier in the year. While the demo is not explicitly dated as of now, you can expect it to hit XBL and PSN in late January or early February, as the game is loosely slated for a February 2008 release. The demo promises to offer players a taste of the full game, like all demos should, including the different gothic locales that the game takes place in as well as the fighting style of the new protagonist, Nero.
Intrigued? You know I am. Hit the jump for the full release.
5 commentsReview: Zack & Wiki: The Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure

[We recently added a gaming reviews section to our forums, giving our users a chance to post reviews they had written. The first one was posted already, and is a great review of Zack & Wiki: The Quest for Barbaros' Treasure by Dexter345. We thought it deserved to be posted on the front page of MEGATONik, and so it can be found below - and if we see any other well written, well done reviews we may post those too. -zizzy]
There’s not much I can say about Zack & Wiki that hasn’t already been said elsewhere. It’s garnering critical acclaim across the board, and yet, rumors are abound that early sales have been abysmal at best. It’s sad to think that one of the best games on the Wii ever might go the way of Beyond Good & Evil or Psychonauts, adored by those who played it, and ignored by most everybody else.
Zack & Wiki are the newest recruits of a group of pirates called the Sea Rabbits. The name makes sense, because everybody in the group other than Zack & Wiki are actually rabbits. The captain is in debt, so Zack & Wiki set out to find treasure, and ultimately, to be the best pirates ever. It’s a simple story, and it works. There is a major *twist* in the tale, but I would be lying if I told you it was unexpected.
Despite the passable story, nearly everything else about this game is excellent. Look at the picture up there. Is that not some of the most vibrant artwork you’ve seen in a video game? The visual style is a bit like that of The Wind Waker (and I’m sure I’m not the first to make that comparison), and it really captures the mood of the game. It’s bright, it’s colorful, and it’s fun.
5 commentsHADOUKEN! Street Fighter IV announced!
In a recently deleted post over at Games Radar, the crew confirmed that a sequel to the fighter gem, Street Fighter 3, is currently in the works. Apparently, the freaks over at Games Radar were on hand at Capcom’s Gamer’s Day in London. No word as of yet which platform the title will appear on, but I have a feeling that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be seeing it sometime later next year. Personally, I loved 3rd Strike, which appeared on the underrated Dreamcast as well as on the Xbox and PS2, and can’t wait to see the new additions that Capcom makes to the series.
