Hardware review: GelaSkins

Let’s face it, there’s a ton of skins out there for your consoles and electronics that are extremely ugly, bulky, and cliche. I’ve tried several skins in the past, but I was never satisfied with any of them. Then I found a product called GelaSkins. Out of all of the lame skull, flame, and flaming skull designs the market carries, finally, I found something worth checking out.
2 commentsBlockbuster expands its gaming variety

Blockbuster is trying pretty hard to make its mark in the gaming retail department, just as many other store chains are trying to do. The company’s Game Rush service wants a piece of the game sale goldmine, which is why Blockbuster will be expanding the service by offering more accessories for consumers.
Starting today, Blockbuster will now carry software, hardware, and accessories for the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo DS systems. In addition to more offerings, the company will also be expanding the variety of games it has available for rent, as well as the number of existing rental copies.
Not only will the company be expanding its variety, but it will also try its best to get the gaming crowd’s attention with exclusive deals and promotions. One example, Blockbuster’s announcement explained a $499 PS3 bundle that included a 40GB system, an HDMI cable, Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray, Transformers: The Game, a Blu-ray DVD remote, and one free Blu-ray or PS3 game rental per week for 12 weeks. Blockbuster definitely wants to compete with GameStop.
Take note that the company hasn’t mentioned the PSP or PC in any of its offerings. Blockbuster hasn’t totally revealed if they’re ditching the two consoles or just not giving them any attention yet.
10 commentsIron Man demo announced, new trailer released
SEGA announced today that a demo of their newest Marvel-based game, Iron Man, will be releasing tomorrow on the Xbox Live Marketplace. SEGA has also said that a demo for the PS3 will be coming “soon” to the PlayStation Store. Alongside the announcement, SEGA also released a new trailer for the game (extremely bad music included).
I’m pretty excited to see the release of Iron Man, being a big fan of the comic books and the superhero himself. Of course, the video game will be based on the highly anticipated movie starring Robert Downey Jr., who is also providing the voice of Iron Man in the game.
The game will be releasing on every console that’s currently accepted in today’s society, including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS, PC, and mobile, on May 2nd.
4 commentsF*CK YEAH Review: God of War: Chains of Olympus

This week I’m going to be doing something a little different. Normally, F*CK YEAH features older games that deserve a moment in the spotlight. Well, this time around I’m going to be waxing explicit with God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP. For those of you that have played the God of War games on the PS2, you’ll understand me when I say that it’s damn near impossible to talk about this game without unleashing a few F-bombs, so it’s only natural that I’d merge this game’s review with F*CK YEAH. Hit the jump for delicious, delicious swear words.
5 commentsGameStop Predicts Wii Shortage for the Next Six Months

Well, who would have guessed that the Wii would still be in short supply after all this time? I wouldn’t have thought so, that’s for sure. If you asked me a year and a half ago, I would have put my money on any of the other systems being in short supply. Nevertheless, here we are with the Wii reportedly in low supply for the next six months.
During its investor’s phone call GameStop COO Dan Dematteo was asked by investors if he saw an end to the post holiday shortages that affected the 360 (were those true?), DS (who doesn’t own one?), and Wii (is Nintendo causing these?). He chose to focus on the Wii since it seems that it is the only system that still might be in shortage, saying that supply “won’t meet demand for the next 2 quarters.” That’s a bit of time, huh? I can’t believe Nintendo would be intentionally doing this still, even though I never believed they were in the first place.
Dematteo also commented on the other systems, saying that the 360 and DS were in good supply while the PSP was getting a bit hard to find. As for the PS3, he said they have plenty of those for all the people out there wanting to pick one up when GTA IV releases… which is also coming out for the 360. I guess it could still spur sales.
GameStop CFO David Carlson also had a word to say about some price cuts coming for both the PS3 and 360. The company is predicting a $50 price cut for each system within the next year. With the positive response the 360 had in Europe after their recent price cut, this can’t be that far from the truth. At least for the 360; do you think that Sony can lose even more money on every system they sell?

This week of new games isn’t quite a “best week ever” when it comes to content, but we do see the release of three, maybe 4 quality games (in my opinion) that I have been somewhat buzzing to see come out. Click the jump below to be amazed with the content we get this week.

New Incredible Hulk Screenshots

eNe3, which is an abbreviation of something in another language, has posted the first screen shots of the new Incredible Hulk game coming out for the 360 and the PS3, based on the film of the same name. I’m hoping the movie has nothing to do with its predecessor (Ang Lee just isn’t built for action), but the story will be a different for the video game. While the latest movie, Hulk, was a bit boring and horribly plotted, the latest video game, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Rampage was anything of the sort, allowing you to rampage through cities and destroy at will, all in the name of good of course. Now it looks like Sega is taking a hint and not only basing the new game on the open world gameplay that Ultimate Rampage featured, but taking cues from the comic book as well as the film.
Still, Ultimate Rampage had its flaws. I’m very, very happy to see that these screen shoots look incredibly realistic and while they’re probably doctored to no end, it gives me high hopes that throwing cars and knocking down buildings will be even more fun this time around than ever before. The game is going to feature plenty of destructible environments and an open world recreation of New York city. It’ll be like Spider-Man, except now you can destroy all the buildings instead of swinging from them. This is just a guess, but I doubt it’ll look that good on the Wii, DS and PSP; which it is also slated for.

[Author's Note: I left Brawl out because it technically does not come out this week(Sun-Sat), but since it will be out by the time the next MEGAMonday New Releases is published, I have decided to include it]
Welcome to another MEGAMonday New Releases, this one being more MEGA than the others because, of course, the new site layout is up and looks awesome! But what about the games you say? Oh yes, the games.
America’s favorite pastime is getting quite a bit of love this week, with a baseball game on almost every console with the releases of Major League Baseball 2K8 and MLB 08: The Show. If you’re more worried about academics than athletics, pick up Bully: Scholarship Edition and enroll in Bullworth Academy. Finally, for those with a taste for blood, the anticipated prequel to the God of War series, God of War: Chains of Olympus, is coming not to the usual Sony home console, but to the PSP.
Oh yes, and BRAWL! After multiple delays, and more months than we could count, Super Smash Bros Brawl is finally out! I’m not even going to tell you to go buy it, since everyone that owns a Wii (and some who don’t) already have this at the top of their lists.

7 commentsSony announces “Deep Red” God of War PSP bundle

I think we should all mark February 26th down as the official Sony day. In addition to the two previous announcements made today, Sony has announced that they will be releasing a limited edition God of War PSP entertainment bundle in June of this year. The bundle will include a limited edition “Deep Red” PSP (ooh, shiny!) with the hero of God of War, Kratos, etched into the back, along with a copy of the game God of War: Chains of Olympus, the smash-hit comedy Superbad on UMD, and a voucher to download a copy of the Playstation One game, Syphon Filter: Combat Ops, from the Playstation Store.
All of this for a mere $199.99. Get your checkbooks out, ladies and gentlemen. This is a deal not worth skipping.

This week is solid, with many solid titles in place of a blockbuster game. Gamers of every genre will be satisfied, from sports to shooters to action and adventure games.
The tried and true button mashing gameplay of Dynasty Warriors is back, filling the need for medieval ass-kicking. Those with a thirst for blood can check out the third-person shooter The Club. A new Dragon Quest game is coming to the Wii, tiding over those wanting an RPG fix.
Most possibly the most looked forward to game this week comes out on not one of the mighty next-gen consoles, but a handheld. The Ace Attorney series has what can easily be called a cult following, and this time Phoenix Wright has stepped down, leaving new attorney Apollo Justice to fill his shoes. Whether Apollo will have as rabid a fanbase as Phoenix Wright did is to be determined, but surely it will provide a great experience Ace Attorney followers will enjoy.

Thank God this week got here when it did. If you remember, last week wasn’t exactly thrilling (unless you were a die hard Bomberman fan), and the biggest release the week before was a Wii exclusive. This week we’re getting into some good stuff. The anticipated Devil May Cry 4 is coming out for both the 360 and PS3, which I will be picking up tomorrow.
There also seems to be a strange theme of animal games this week, with My Horse & Me, Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure, Zoo Tycoon 2, and Downstream Panic! all coming out.
Finally, if you didn’t notice, The Spiderwick Chronicles is being released for the 360, PS2, DS, PC, Wii, SNES, Atari Jaguar, and Turbografx 16. OK, maybe not those last ones. But geez, can they feed us that shit any harder?

I am a strange person. I’ve heard it all throughout my life. There was nothing more fun to me as a child than getting up on a Saturday morning, watching cartoons with a big-ass bowl of cereal and then spending the rest of the day gaming on any and all systems that I had access to. Growing up a gamer in the early eighties has enabled me to see the rise of every game console except for the original Pong. I’ve been gaming since I learned to read at the age of three, when I learned how to run my old man’s Commodore 64 all because I wanted to play Time Pilot.
Many of you have been fervently reading and commenting on my other posts that I’ve done since my inception to MEGATONik, and I can’t thank you enough for your support. In thanks to you, the community, I’ve decided to put in a ton of work and bring you a special post that near and dear to my heart, my Top 50 Console Games of All Time.
I will try my damnedest to explain the reasons why I think why a certain game is deserved of it’s spot. Certainly many of you will disagree with the order I have put the games in but I always welcome your comments and suggestions. It is thanks to all of you in the community that I have been able to hone my craft by subjecting you to my subjective opinions about video games. Without any further ado… let’s get this thing started! Hit the jump to be defeated by a wall of text designed to titillate and please you.

Well everyone, after a quality selection last week, we’re back to a drought. Unless, you know, you’re overly obsessed with Bomberman. If that’s the case, do I have a week for you, with 3 new Bomberman games being released. You can get your bomb fill on the Wii, DS, and PSP. Besides that, nothing to see here.
Oh, who the hell am I kidding? Pet Vet 3D: Animal Hospital Down Under came out this week, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Guaranteed GOTY right here folks. I don’t have the greatest computer, so I may have to upgrade in order to play it, but I’m willing to pay hundreds, nay, thousands just for the chance to tend to a virtual kangaroo.

6 commentsPSP Skype is Delayed in Japan. Doesn’t Affect You At All.

Looks like those Wii crazy Japanese will have to wait a little longer to go Skype crazy on their PSPs. Kotaku gives us word that the Skype feature previously announced for the PSP will be delayed until a later, unannounced, date in Japan. The reason for this is that some of the Microphone components in Sony’s PSP mics weren’t up to snuff for Skype and instead of releasing the feature without proper peripheral support they’re going to delay it until they can release a mic that meets the standards.
Doesn’t really matter to us Americans and Europeans as Sony says that the Japanese delay really won’t affect the release date for us. File this away as a useless tidbit other than to laugh at your Japanese friends as you update your PSP with Skype any day now.

Finally. After weeks and weeks of healthy doses of nothing and crap, we receive a solid line-up of quality games. There’s something for everyone this week, most notably No More Heroes for the Wii, brought to us by Suda 51. Anyone who has played a Suda 51 title can tell you that, while obscure, Suda’s games are masterpieces in their own right, and should satisfy anyone who wants something more than minigames and E+ games for their Wii.
360 and PS3 owners can look forward to Burnout: Paradise, the next installment in the acclaimed Burnout series. Unlike the previous Burnout games, however, Paradise takes place in a sandbox type world, with players able to freely drive around Paradise City and engaging in races at their own will.
The last, but certainly not least, game of note is the anticipated Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, available for the DS. Days of Ruin is the latest in the popular Advance Wars series, and features the ability to create your own custom maps, play friends online via Wi-Fi, and a campaign mode with a significantly darker plot than the previous Advance Wars games.
