New GameCube controller is pretty.

April 09th, 2008 | Category: Gamecube, Nintendo, Wii

I was going to post this a few hours ago, but the computer at work was giving me a hard time (and by that I meant that I spaced on my wordpress password) so now this news is probably older than the internet, but I still think it’s pretty neat. White GameCube controllers! Finally I’ll be able to relive the racial tensions of the early 20th century in controller form! I just hope that the resulting brawl won’t leave any innocent bystanders with controller-shaped dents in their heads.

Really though, I’m done making fun of dead little girls now.

I think this is a smart move on Nintendo’s part. Hell, I might even pick one up just for the novelty of owning one, despite the fact that I have 5 GC controllers already (I play a lot of Smash at the dorms, some of my controllers have suffered immensely). Still, why couldn’t it have been a new wavebird that connects directly to the Wii? Or at least have the cord feed into the Wiimote’s proprietary slot instead of into the console..! And so help me, if they didn’t lengthen the cord…

Yeah. White GCN controller. Yay!

The Fallout - How To Stop Fanboy-ism

There is only one thing that can stop all of the rampant fanboy-ism that is devouring the industry that I love, and I pray that I never see the day where it happens. The minute that it happens I will officially be done with video games…and that is if the industry evolves into having only a single home console. Who am I kidding, I’ll still be into video games when I’m old and gray no matter what. If interested in seeing my opinons on this and how we would see the death of the fanboy, click the jump below.

MEGATONik Presents - Xopher’s Top 50 Console Games of All Time

nuclear-explosion.jpg

I am a strange person. I’ve heard it all throughout my life. There was nothing more fun to me as a child than getting up on a Saturday morning, watching cartoons with a big-ass bowl of cereal and then spending the rest of the day gaming on any and all systems that I had access to. Growing up a gamer in the early eighties has enabled me to see the rise of every game console except for the original Pong. I’ve been gaming since I learned to read at the age of three, when I learned how to run my old man’s Commodore 64 all because I wanted to play Time Pilot.

Many of you have been fervently reading and commenting on my other posts that I’ve done since my inception to MEGATONik, and I can’t thank you enough for your support. In thanks to you, the community, I’ve decided to put in a ton of work and bring you a special post that near and dear to my heart, my Top 50 Console Games of All Time.

I will try my damnedest to explain the reasons why I think why a certain game is deserved of it’s spot. Certainly many of you will disagree with the order I have put the games in but I always welcome your comments and suggestions. It is thanks to all of you in the community that I have been able to hone my craft by subjecting you to my subjective opinions about video games. Without any further ado… let’s get this thing started! Hit the jump to be defeated by a wall of text designed to titillate and please you.

Wavebird is Waving Goodbye

January 02nd, 2008 | Category: Gamecube, Nintendo, Retail

I tried really hard to think of some sort of extinct bird that had bird in its name for the title but nothing came to me.

Looks like the original Wireless controller, Nintendo’s Wavebird, is going to get harder and harder to find as Nintendo has stopped shipping them out to stores. GoNintendo talked with a customer service rep who had this to say about the friendly controller with the nonsensical name:

I haven’t heard of any plans to offer the Wavebird Wireless Controllers in stores again (I did some checking, and we are still shipping the original Nintendo GameCube Controllers to stores). If you’re unable to find the original Nintendo GameCube Controller locally, you can still order this item from us.

I personally have four Wavebird’s so it isn’t a big deal for me but if I was Nintendo I would ship the Wavebirds not the wired controllers as the original controllers had really short wires. Also, if I was Nintendo, I would totally swim in a big pit of gold coins like my idol Scrooge McDuck. But I’m not, so all I can do is take a moment of silence for the dearly departed.
