A Weird Kid’s Top 10 - Games of 2007

January 01st, 2008 | Category: Epic, List, PC, PSP, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360

I don’t know about all of you wonderful readers out there, but there’s nothing that I love more than making Top 10 lists. Maybe it’s a genetic imperative that I inherited from my OCD father. Or, it could be the hours of David Letterman I watched as a kid. Whatever the cause may be, it warped my mind into the categorizing, importance-assigning machine that it is today.

With that being said, tonight’s Top 10 is one that many of you out there will either be enthralled by or absolutely disappointed with. To see what type of reader you are, just click that little jump down there. You know you need to.

Facebook: Casual gaming’s newest victim

December 08th, 2007 | Category: List, WHY??

fbook

Facebook. It’s the new sensation that’s sweeping the nation. Everyone and their dead grandmother has a Facebook. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to not have one. The newest craze to hit the Book of Face are the new applications which let you rate your friends’ hotness or even play games.

While watching one of my friends try to beat his personal high score, I remarked, “Why would you ever want to play this?” His response was “I don’t play them because I think they’re fun. I play them because I want to brag to all my friends about my high score.” So are these games worth your time and dignity? Hit the jump to find out.

December 05th, 2007 | Category: Articles, DS, List, Nintendo, Wii

After reading US Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s list for the Detroit News about which games parents should avoid getting their children this Christmas, Kevin Cortez and I could not help but put together a revised list of games for parents to avoid at all costs this holiday season. Our list will be following the same format as Worthy’s, including the title of the game along with a witty snippet of information about each game.

Hit the jump for our marvelous attempt at creating a life-line for gaming confused parents, aligned in no particular order.

10 games parents should avoid for Christmas

December 05th, 2007 | Category: Articles, Failure, Hate, List, Microsoft, Nintendo, Retail, Sony

US Prosecutor Kym Worthy, has published a list for the Detroit News of 10 games to avoid this holiday season. All of these games are, of course, violent and very well known, and should never be played by children unless you’re aiming to corrupt their poor young minds with violence and drugs. Worthy went on to say:

“There is no way that anyone can convince me that the horribleness and gruesomeness of the crimes that we’ve been seeing is not somehow a result, at least in part, of the violent video game culture.”

Full list of features in the upcoming dashboard update, wakes people up again

November 30th, 2007 | Category: Firmware Update, List, Microsoft, OMG1!!1!, Xbox 360, Xbox Live

The full list of the features to be included in the upcoming dashboard update set to be released December 4th is out, and there certainly are a lot of features - most of which are more exciting than what had previously been announced. One of the biggest additions, something that has been requested by many almost every single time an update is brought up, is the ability to play back Divx video files. The video and audio playback features have been improved in a lot of other ways too, but that will most likely be the one that is most important to the majority of people judging by how many have demanded it. Details on all the video codecs the 360 can play once the update is released can be found here, and all the other features you’ll be able to use in less than a week are found after the jump.

Games Radar’s 84 gaming firsts

November 27th, 2007 | Category: 1337, Achievements, Gaming Industry, Hardware, List, Statistics

The First Adults Only rated game - what gamers jacked off to 10 years ago

Over at Games Radar they have a huge list of gaming firsts, from the first game to get an AO rating to the first real boss. Everything in gaming had to begin somewhere, and they sure found a lot - they list a total of 84 gaming firsts. It’s really interesting to take a look back at the roots of so many aspects of gaming (and even some more recent firsts), and to see how much has changed over the years.

I’ve selected some of my favorites after the jump, but there are a lot of other fascinating firsts in the full list.

Super Mario Galaxy is NOT the Greatest Game Ever (mwhahahahaha)

November 22nd, 2007 | Category: Hate, List, Nintendo, Pwned

And just like that, Link has reclaimed his position on the Gamerankings “Best Games Ever” list with Ocarina Of Time, after, much to my dismay, it had been overtaken by Super Mario Galaxy for a short period of time.

Although, I still can’t possibly take this list seriously considering Half Life 2 shows up 3 times and Resident Evil 4, my own personal “best game ever”, is in an insulting 8th place.

Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAKE! Top 7 WTF?!? Endings

October 24th, 2007 | Category: Failure, List, WTF?, Weird

Ever finished a game, watched the ending cut scene, turned off the console and just sat there going “…what the hell just happened?” Games Radar has posted a pretty cool article on their site that you can relate to if you answered “yes,” to the previous question. They made a top 7 list of the weirdest video game endings ever. The list includes alien ass, a pig, boobs, a snake, and is filled with tremendous letdowns and confusion. The list also includes videos on every ending. Overall, it’s a damned good list, and a fun read. Of course, the most obvious warning before reading this article: SPOILERS.
