Winners of the ThinkGeek Mario contest finally announced!

June 06th, 2008 | Category: Contests, Site news

WIN WIN WIN
Finally, after far too many delays and plenty of procrastination, we’re ready to announce the winners of our ThinkGeek Mario contest (where we asked you what your favorite game featuring Mario was). There were a lot great entries out of the 30-something that we received, and it certainly wasn’t easy to pick a winner. From the heartfelt nostalgic entries to the humorous ones to the lengthy essays, there was a lot of variety in not only the choices but the style.

Following are some of the best entries (in chronological order, and be warned, there is a lot of text), and if you can’t take the anticipation just scroll all the way down to the bottom of this post to see who won.

Everybody loves contests, and here at MEGATONik, we totally get that. That’s why we’re committed to giving as much as humanly possible to our readers.

So, what I’m going to do is, until I run out, pick one or two people who comment on this post every so often over the next day and hook them up with these codes. Just make sure your comment says whether you want it for 360 or PS3.

Easy enough, right?

Design Your Way Into Bionic Commando Rearmed

February 28th, 2008 | Category: Contests, Epic, PC, PSN, Platformers, XBLA

bionic_commando_leadin.jpg

Bionic Commando was, without a doubt, one of the biggest cult hits of the 8-bit gaming era, so it was no surprise when a remake was announced for XBLA, PSN, and PC. Capcom is now giving Bionic Commando loyalists the chance of a lifetime: a chance to design a level for the new version. To be more specific, Capcom wants your ideas for a “challenge level”, which are basically timed obstacle courses. Your design can be as simplistic or as detailed as you want it to be. All mediums are accepted, as long as you can get an image of your idea into email form.

What’s the prize for the lucky gamer who gets their level picked? Not only will they have their level featured in the game, but they will also get their name in the credits, which you can brag about for the rest of your life. Start thinking up your creation now though, as the contest only runs until at 11:59 PST of March 12th. Full details can be found at Capcom’s blog.

Super Ultimate Xtreme Contest of Win! [UPDATE 2! CONGRATS DEXTER]

September 17th, 2007 | Category: Contests, Site news

So you want to win some cool swag, eh? Well, we’re not exactly just giving the stuff out; no, you’ll have to use your brains, and your computers, to figure out what retro game title we are thinking of each day.

How’s the contest going to work? I’m glad you asked. Every day, Cortez, lawl, zizzy and I will be thinking of a retro game title that I’m sure many of you have played in the past. Now, it can be from any “last-generation” console, so make sure you bring your thinking caps. The games and clues will start out easy on the first day and get progressively more difficult by the end. All you have to do is figure out, from the clues that we give you, just exactly what game we are thinking of. If you figure out the title correctly, we will give you one ballot towards a drawing of the daily prize. The contest will continue for 5 days until all prizes are distributed. Only one guess of the game is allowed per day, so make sure that you have got it right before you guess!

How do you submit your answer? Aren’t you full of exciting questions today! In order to submit your answers, send an email to contests [at] megatonik [dot] com with the header “CONTEST ANSWER *DAY OF THE WEEK*: *YOUR ANSWER HERE*”. All you have to submit is the title of the game, not what platform it is on, or anything else. Also, make sure to include your name in your email so we know who it is that sent it.

Disclaimer (shit, I’m no lawyer…):

1. Each and every person that submits the correct answer to our daily puzzle will be given a ballot. These ballots will then be put into a hat/coat/used condom daily and the winner will be randomly selected every day. We will then send you the junk in the mail, that is provided that you have an actual residence and are not just a bum using your computer in some internet café.

2. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone that we wish. OJ Simpson and Al Jazeera members need not apply.

3. Prizes are as follows: (5) GRAND PRIZES, each consisting of one (1) shirt, one (1) sticker, one (1) developer dev kit, and one (1) lanyard. And they all have little pink godzillas on them. Tee-hee!

4. This contest is open to anyone/anything that loves videogames. However, it is not open to those who live where any contest like this is prohibited. Additionally, if you live outside of North America, you’re going to have to pay additional shipping costs to get the prizes sent to you.

5. Entering this contest means that you agree to all of the rules, however asinine they may be, listed above.

NOTE: Big thanks to PinkGodzilla.net for providing the great swag!

Now that we’re done with all that legal mumbo-jumbo, let’s get down to the fun part. Here are the clues for Monday, 9/17:

1. Oh sh*t, little green lizards!

2. Cool RAWR bar!

3. Continue? No? Sad monkey.

4. It’s good to be king.

5. Honestly, why don’t the damn giraffes keep their heads still?

There you have it! Think you know the answer? Hit up contests [at] megatonik [dot] com with the header “CONTEST ANSWER *DAY OF THE WEEK*: *YOUR ANSWER HERE*”. And also, you may want to check out the forums.
000_0009.jpg000_0010.jpg000_0008.jpgpinkgodzilladevkit.gifpinkgodzillashirts.jpg

UPDATE: Make sure that you get your contest entry in soon; we’re going to be drawing a winner at 9pm EST!

UPDATE 2: CONGRATULATIONS, DEXTER! You’re the randomly selected winner of today’s contest! The answer, for all the rest of you knuckleheads out there, was The Lion King: The Game, truly one of Disney’s best games (besides Aladdin). Stay tuned for another chance to win some great swag tomorrow!
