CONTEST: Win exclusive early access to the Battlefield: Bad Company demo [ALL CODES GONE]

Everybody loves contests, and here at MEGATONik, we totally get that. That’s why we’re committed to giving as much as humanly possible to our readers.
Today, the guys at EA were nice enough to provide us with a batch of demo codes for Battlefield: Bad Company that let you play the demo before it’s officially released onto XBL and PSN on June 5th.
So, what I’m going to do is, until I run out, pick one or two people who comment on this post every so often over the next day and hook them up with these codes. Just make sure your comment says whether you want it for 360 or PS3.
Easy enough, right?
WINNERS:
applejuice (PS3)
PXG (PS3)
drewzki (360)
Alan (360)
refusedchaos (PS3)
alpha (360)
Neverletthem (PS3)
Dalts (PS3)
Susan (360)
shapeless (PS3)
…and I’m out of codes. Keep an eye on MEGATONik for more great contests in the future, and hey, why not join our forums in the meantime?

Wow, did you guys see all those Locusts on the screen at one point? This game is going to be amazing when it releases in November.
10 commentsI love coupons: $10 off all 360 games at Target

Do you like to save money? Do you think the prices of Xbox 360 games are just too damn high? Do you shop at Target? If you answered yes to these questions… well, just keep reading.
How would you like to get 10 dollars off any 360 game at Target? All you need to do is print out a coupon! Click here to download the PDF.
Keep in mind that at most Target stores, you can find a ton of clearance games at really, really good prices (for example, I’ve seen PGR4 for 14.98 (or 4.98 with coupon) recently).

No, Mr. Glenn Beck, you’re the fucking loser.
5 commentsKonami announces Metal Gear Solid: Pliskin’s Story exclusively on 360
I’ve got my hands on some HUGE news that you won’t see anywhere else (embargo expires next week). Konami is developing a Metal Gear Solid 2 spinoff, exclusively for the 360.
Pliskin’s Story will focus on what Pliskin (Snake) and Otacon did while you were running around the plant playing as Raiden during MGS2. Konami also told us that it will feature the gameplay changes implemented in MGS3: Subsistence, including the 3D camera.
Rumor is that Microsoft, after a final, last ditch attempt to secure MGS4 on the 360, came to terms with Konami (large sums of money were involved) and got them to switch development of this game (which was previously planned to be one of the final titles for the PS2), over to the 360.
The expected release date is November ‘08, and it will feature drop-in, drop-out co-op with player 2 providing support as Otacon over Xbox Live.

44 commentsSuper Smash Bros. Brawl sells, like, a lot of copies

Nintendo has just sent word that their epic Wii fighter, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, sold 874,000 copies on launch day (March 9th) and 1.4 million units total since then in the United States alone. Apparently, this averages out to around 120 copies being sold per minute as of March 16th and it’s the fastest selling game in Nintendo’s history.
Of course this is to be expected, because it’s a really f*cking great game. This just goes to show that Nintendo should be focusing on creating more hardcore games like Brawl, instead of turning the Wii into an exercise machine. Still, I do have a strange feeling that Wii Fit is going to sell a ridiculous amount of units. I hope I’m wrong.
Full press release after the jump.
1 commentOMG, LOL is announced for the DS

Oh Em Gee guys!!! Did you hear that Agetec, publisher of such games as Cookie and Cream and Magic Pengel, is bringing a game called LOL to the Nintendo DS this May? Like SRSLY? OMG LOL.
Agetec describes the gameplay as:
LOL is played by one of the players making a challenge in writing to the others. The crazier the challenge, the more fun everyone will have. The person who delivered the challenge chooses an appropriate time limit, and everyone has to answer the challenge on their touch screen however they see fit – with words, pictures, or whatever comes to mind. The host reveals the answers, and everyone votes on a winner who will then decide on the challenge for the next round. Always different and a blast to play every time, LOL will, as its name implies, make everyone laugh out loud.
… but it really just looks like Pictochat with Wi-fi play to me.
I think it’s worth mentioning that the game’s motto is “If the game is boring, then you are boring.” I swear I didn’t make that up.

6 commentsThis is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games sells 5 Million Copies

I’m aware that this is old news by now. So, why hasn’t it been posted about yet on MEGATONik? Because after I read about it yesterday… I fainted.
Really, just think about it: a game featuring an Italian plumber and his brother competing in Olympic events against a blue hedgehog and his “whore a franchise into the ground” friends has sold five million copies between the Wii and DS versions.
Isn’t that just completely ridiculous? Never before has our “WHY??” tag felt more appropriate to me.

5 commentsLOST: Via Domus (360) Liveblog (finished updating)

Yesterday, I told you guys I would be buying LOST: Via Domus no matter how horrible it turned out being.
After an annoying experience at Best Buy and sixty dollars emptied from my wallet, I’ve kept true to that promise and the game is sitting on the title screen as I type this.
Now, I won’t be reviewing it … so how will you know how bad (or good, but that is really less likely) it is? Well, in what I hope turns out to be a regular feature by our various editors, I am going to liveblog my journey (followed by a brief summary) through LOST: Via Domus right here and right now for you guys. As I play through the game, this post will be updated as frequently as humanly possible. Lets begin, shall we?
Updates will start flowing in a few minutes.

LOST: Via Domus is buggy … and I don’t care
Let me admit something - I’m a rabid LOST fanboy. I believe it’s the greatest thing to ever air on TV and every week I tune in and obsess over just what the hell is happening on the island.
When Ubisoft first announced a game based on the show using the Far Cry engine, I was skeptical. Months went by with practically no new info, up until a month ago when Eurogamer and Gamespot both posted positive previews of the game. I’ve had high hopes for it ever since reading those previews, but the game releases tomorrow and now that some people have gotten their hands on it, things aren’t so pretty. Just take a look at the above (hilarious) video.
Yeah, it’s looking to be shit, but the fanboy inside of me who would probably suck JJ Abrams off to get the answers to LOST is going to f*cking buy it tomorrow… and I’ll probably delude myself into thinking it’s the best game ever.
P.S.: Yeah, I’m pathetic.
2 commentsRUMOR: Microsoft has been developing a Blu-ray add-on to launch May ‘08 (UPDATE!)

(Unsexy Update: Apparently, Microsoft still believes in its little engine that could, the HD DVD player. Gamerscore Blog recently had this to say about rumors circulating that HD DVD was officially dead:
We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. As we’ve long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry. We will wait until we hear from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans around the Xbox 360 HD DVD player. HD DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high definition experience to consumers and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room along with playback of the DVD movies they already own.
Ah, well, I guess we won’t be seeing a Blu-Ray add on anytime remotely soon. -backflip)
You guys have heard that Netflix, Wal-Mart, and most recently Toshiba, who is the main backer of HD-DVD, are completely dropping the format, right?
Well, it looks like Microsoft is ready to put the final nail in the coffin by releasing a Blu-ray add-on for the 360 as soon as May ‘08. According to Smarthouse.au, Microsoft has pretty much finished developing the thing and it can be released to stores within around 3 months.
I just want to say that this is totally unconfirmed and from what I can tell, a completely unknown source, but it’s something I was discussing with backflip earlier today and it definitely sounds plausible to me.
8 commentsRUMOR: Future Rock Band DLC Leaked?

According to a thread on ScoreHero, the latest Rock Band DLC pack, (Arguably) Punk Pack 2, contains a list of every song in the game, along with quite a few songs we haven’t heard about.
I’m just going to say that if these are really showing up soon, Rock Band is going to continue to f*cking rock us and have the best downloadable content of any game I’ve seen.
Hit the jump for the full list. (Thanks Joystiq for saving me the time it would take to pair up all of the songs with their respective artists.)
6 commentsFar Cry Movie Trailer: Does Uwe Boll have another box office hit on his hands?
The trailer for Uwe Boll’s Far Cry movie showed up on Youtube today, and guess what? It looks pretty good! HA, not really! It looks f*cking awful.
Mr. Boll, immature humor can be really damn funny (see: Superbad), but when you make “is that a gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me” jokes in the middle of an already terrible action movie that has nothing to do with its source material after making 246 terrible movies before it, it just makes you look like even more of a f*cking talentless hack.
It releases this Spring and includes a coupon for a free castration with every ticket. Great deal!
3 commentsCheck out the “I Love Rock Band Valentine’s Day Bash” on Wednesday the 13th… at 12 PM (at least in Orlando)

Two hours ago, a press release showed up in my inbox detailing a Valentine’s Day Rock Band tournament organized by 1up, MTV Games and Virgin Megastores, and for the life of me I cannot decide why in the world they would possibly hold the “main event” of the tournament, at the Virgin Megastore inside of Downtown Disney in Orlando, at 12 PM in the afternoon on Wednesday, the day BEFORE Valentine’s Day.
Really, if they couldn’t get in there on the day of V-Day, couldn’t it at least be held off until Friday night or Saturday afternoon (or even at the same time as the other locations)? It just seems ridiculous to expect that a decent amount of people will show up right in the middle of the day, while the kids are in school and everyone else is at work, to come to Disney World to compete in a Rock Band tournament, even when a $500 gift card and “other cool prizes” are at stake.
The tournament will also take place in NYC and Hollywood at a reasonable time, 6:30 PM.
Hit the jump for the press release which contains all the details about the tourney and addresses for all 3 locations.
