Star Wars: The Old Republic officially announced

Gee, bet no one figured that the super-secret project from Bioware, Lucasarts, and EA was going to be a new Star Wars MMO, huh? Talk about coming out of left field! Not much is known about SWTOR (which has to be pronounced something like “swa-tor”, right?), but here’s what we do know (one possible spoiler ahead, so tread carefully):

-the game is set 300 years after the first Knights of the Old Republic game, putting it about 3600 years before the movies.
-the story will be different depending on what class you choose to play as
-A.I. controlled “companion characters” will join you on your adventure. You’ll be able to talk to and interact with them and they may leave if you piss them off.
-SWTOR has more story content than all the other Bioware titles (including expansions) combined.
-the Sith Empire in the game is the ancient Sith Empire, not the one we’ve seen in the previous KOTOR titles. These are the guys *SPOILER* Revan went after between the end of KOTOR and the start of KOTOR II. *END SPOILER*
-the game is still in the very early stages, so it won’t be out for a long, long time. Imagine the longest wait for a game ever, then add nine more months onto that and you should have SWTOR’s rough release date.

Well, there you have it. I, for one, am ridiculously psyched. I’ve been off the MMO sauce for more than two years now, but I just know that this game is going to grab me by my nerd parts and completely ruin any kind of social life I may have one day dreamed of. Can’t wait!

I can’t believe they made a MMO game… They should have just made another KOTOR. I for one am not going to be purchasing this game. I refuse to play games that make you pay money just so you can play for another month or two.
