Virtual Console/WiiWare Monday: 7/21/08
Looking for some games to waste your Wii Points on that you might play for an hour and then never click on again? Well, this week just might be for you! Hit the jump to find out what was added to Nintendo’s online catalog.
Virtual Console is reviving two Japan-only Genesis shooters this week. The first is Super Fantasy Land (900 Wii Points), where you play as some sort of head with little feet and wings. Like any shooter, the premise is to go around… um… shooting things. The difference between this game and most shoot-’em-ups is that, for the most part, Super Fantasy Land is more of a free-roaming game where the objective is to kill a certain amount of enemies. Also unlike most shooters, this game sports colorful backdrops and whimsical music. With a decent array of ship and weapon upgrades, this might be worth looking into despite the steep price.
The second is the widely-acclaimed Gley Lancer (900 Wii Points). Of the three titles released this week, this is almost definitely the best one. Gley Lancer is a classic, side-scrolling shoot-’em-up with great graphics, music, and gameplay. Again, despite the import tax price of nine dollars, this game deserves a home in one of your Wii menu slots… only if you have the space for it, of course.
Lastly is the severely underwhelming Pirates: the Key of Dreams (1000 Wii Points). Ugh, it just looks awful. Just watch that video… go on, do it. Look at how much text there is! Then, when it finally gets into some actual gameplay, it looks incredibly boring. Sid Meier should try to send out a PR notice that he is in no way affiliated with this game. Ugh.
