Mass Effect (novel) sequel available tomorrow

Get excited! Tomorrow sees the release of Mass Effect: Ascension by Drew Karpyshyn, lead writer of Mass Effect for the 360 and PC. Sure, you’ll probably be tied up with Soul Calibur IV, and rightly so, but hear me out on this one.

Since one of the best parts of Mass Effect was the narrative, why not continue the saga in handy book form without all of those five minute elevator rides and texture pop-ins?

The book, which takes place a few months after the game, promises a closer look at the quarian species, biotics, Cerberus (the pro-human military splinter group from the game), and the Omega, a counterpart of the Citadel in the Terminus System. While it does spoil parts of the game and prequel novel, it isn’t required reading for getting the most out of Mass Effect 2. Of course, it does count as credit towards becoming my best friend, which is a handy feature.

When the game came out, I forced myself to read the first book before I played the game, and it was awesome! I would recommend it to anyone. I think it added a lot to the game. I didn’t know there was another book and I plan on picking it up as soon as possible. Looking forward to it.

I’m actually going to be posting a review of the book and thoughts on how the book ties into the Mass Effect universe. I’m not finished with the book as of yet, but you can expect my review to be very positive and spoiler-free.
