The Budget Gamer - July 14, 2008

Here at MEGATONik we always strive to bring our readers new features that are either helpful or at the very least entertaining. I can guarantee that this new feature will do at least one of those each time I am at the writing helm. With that being said, welcome to The Budget Gamer for the week of July 14, 2008!

Not everyone out in the wonderful world of gaming can afford to buy new games all of the time, and from what I’m noticing it is foolish to do so for every game in your library (unless you are dying to get your hands on it).

This week’s menu solely consists of deals that are to be had for the PS3. I’m not saying that the Xbox 360 is a bad console, but it seems that Sony seems to clean up this week when it comes to savings. I am in no way a Sony fanboy (I do own all 3 systems from this generation), but I have to admit that some of these deals are really tempting.

Print ads from both K-Mart and Circuit City have listed the release of PlayStation3 Greatest Hits titles: Resistance: Fall of Man, Warhawk, and Motorstom this week. The ads also put the price point at $29.99. There is no official word from Sony about the new red-cased titles but we are expecting a press release sometime this week during E3.

If that deal still seems a bit expensive, head on over to Gamestop with this coupon and enjoy getting 25% off of any used PS3 game (limit 2). I would use this coupon to pick up Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire, but I admit that I have a giant robot fetish.

At Wal-Mart stores across the country, the price for The Eye of Judgment has been cut in half to only $35. Some stores are even reporting in that you can get them for $30, but as always your mileage may vary. I haven’t had much experience with this game, but being the CCG nerd I used to be with Magic: The Gathering, I can only imagine how fun this game is. Plus, $30 is a good price just for the camera that comes bundled in the packaging.

Rounding out the list is a game that I have beaten about 4 times now and is on the very top of a very short list of games of 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Circuit City is offering the game at the $10 cheaper price point of $49.99. Just to sweeten the deal, they will give you a $10 gift card, that brings the price down to a low $39.99, almost half of what I paid for my collector’s edition. You have to admit that’s a pretty sweet deal for a game that is barely a month old.

That does it for the inaugural edition of The Budget Gamer. If any of you fine readers out there know of some great sales going on in the near future, drop us a line at our tips@megatonik.com address and we’ll more than likely use it either as an addition to the article we post or save it for a later edition.

Looks like I might finally have to get Resistance. I like the look of those snazzy red boxes, too.
