Lightsaber Duels Announced for Wii

Star Wars fans can stop holding their breath now and fill their lungs with the sweet, burning ozone smell of Jedi combat because Lightsaber Duels for the Wii has been announced by LucasArts.

Developed by Krome Studios (the developer handling the Wii, PS2, and PSP port of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed), Lightsaber Duels puts the control of a more elegant weapon for a more civilized age in the hands of Wii owners for them to cut fools up use only when all diplomatic options have been exhausted…ahem. The game will also feature destructible environments and, of course, Force powers.

Now, for some bad news: the game is set during the Clone Wars, so no Luke or Darth Vader (and no, Anakin is no Darth Vader. Not by a long shot). Stil, there’s always General Grievous, Count Dooku, Yoda, and other assorted flavors of Jedi and Sith characters to pull from.

Look for the trailer to premiere on Spike’s Game Trailers TV tonight. If it doesn’t outright suck, we’ll post it as soon as it becomes available on the Interwebs.

Awesome!!! I kinda wish they had the original trilogy characters in there, but I’ll take what I can get. They”l probably put all the old characers in a sequel, like lego star wars.

I’m not convinced it’ll be any good. I’d be happy to see them prove me wrong.

I’m with Dexter. 1 to 1 swordsplay is pretty much something I never expected the Wii to do well. Hopefully it does in this case, because a whole Star Wars game based around one niche element? The only SW games that did that successfully were the first Podracer game, and the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series.
