Virtual Console/WiiWare monday: 5/26/08

It’s Monday again, and this time it’s a good day to be a patron of Nintendo’s download services. A whopping 4 new games have been added for this week for your downloading pleasure! Hit the jump to take a look at what’s available.
First on the list is City Connection (500 Wii points), a port of a somewhat-unknown arcade game for the NES. From what I’ve seen, you play as a jumping car that has to paint all of the roads white without touching any of the other cars… or something. Yeah, looks real exciting.
Second is the absolutely sublime Metal Slug (900 Wii points) for the Neo Geo. Hot diggity, I’d forgotten exactly how pretty this game was back in the day. Metal Slug was way ahead of the game when they decided to go with a primarily earth-toned pallet, but that’s not to say that it looks drab in any sense. There are plenty of brightly-colored explosions all around, too. At 9 bucks, it’s kind of pricey, but if you’re a fan of the sidescrolling shooter genre, this is one of the better games out there. Plus you can play it with a friend!
On the WiiWare front this week we have the greatly-anticipated Dr. Mario Online RX (1000 Wii points). I don’t really know what to say about this one other than that it’s Dr. Mario… online. It also has the Dr. Mario styled mini game from Brain Age 2, presumably using IR instead of touch as its control scheme. Doc M has always been my all-time favorite puzzle game, so I’m sure that the inclusion of online multiplayer will only add to its addictiveness.
Second is Family Table Tennis (500 Wii points) from Aksys Games. Considering how popular Wii Sports Tennis was in my dorm last year, I’m sure this little title will be worth the very reasonable $5 price point. Plus the art style is flippin’ adorable! Lack of Mii support might be a bit of a downside for some, though. If you don’t care about having your face in the game, this one is definitely worth taking a look at.
That’s it for this week. Tune in next Monday for another thrilling update!

Hmm. Dr. Mario has actually always been one of my least favorite puzzle games. It’s not as boring as Bejeweled, but it’s close.
Why get Metal Slug on the VC when you can get the anthology one for like thirty bucks. It has metal slug 1-6….it will probably play the exact same anyway…pointless on the VC if you ask me.
Your MOM is pointless on the VC!

Because the VC one will not make you do the retarded Wii-mote flick to toss grenades, which was stupid and damn near broke the game.
