Guitar Hero: World Tour priced

After it was announced that the next Guitar Hero game would incorporate other instruments to the game, fans began speculating on the price. Well, GameStop placed the prices of the game up on its website, revealing that the bundles for the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 will cost $20 more than Rock Band’s special edition bundle cost - $189.99. The PS2’s bundle will cost $10 less, at $179.99.
To purchase just the guitar and game, it will cost $99.99. The game is priced at $59.99 for 360 and PS3 owners, while PS2 and Wii owners can buy Guitar Hero: World Tour for $49.99. The game will release October 27, 2008.

Fuck that. I thought Rock Band was a bit too much, even now after getting it (I enjoy it, the price tag still hurt). This is going to be a pretty sizable flop if you ask me.
I’m actually looking forward to this because the drums look like a lot fun and I’ll probably like the song selection more than Rock Band’s.
its going to sell morty. youre silly if you think people wont buy this. people know guitar hero products dont break. now my rock band stuff ( well lets just say they put a note in the box saying it would pbly break )
So, you’re saying those people who already have their rooms shoved with music peripherals are willing to spend nearly $200 on even more crap? People will buy this, but not that many. With this recession looming, wallets are going to get tighter and dropping that much money on a music video game (of which one already exists) is pretty stupid.
And honestly, I’ve had two Guitar Hero controllers fuck up on me. “Guitar Hero products don’t break” is a rather absolute statement to something I can attest to is false.
My Guitar Hero 2 disc is madddddddd buggy. Always randomly freezes, and it has no scratches on it.
I’m with Morty on this one. Two of my friends who purchased their GH3s around the time I purchased Rock Band have had wireless Guitar Hero 3 controllers die on them. Activision responded with “not our problem.” At least Harmonix opted to fix our guitars.
I want this, but I’m not so sure if I’ll be able to swing it.
Oh, certainly this will sell, but nowhere near as well as Rock Band has.
It’s like minigame compilations on the Wii. Sure, people bought and played Rayman: Raving Rabbids, but then everybody started making minigame compilations, and the fact of the matter is that you don’t need that many minigame compilations.
The issue here is compounded because of the price tag. Yeah, this looks nice, and I can imagine people who don’t already own Rock Band getting this. Can I imagine a lot of people who do already own Rock Band buying this? No, not many.
I think you guys over giving Rock Band to much credit. It hasn’t sld near as much as yo think. GH on the other hand has blown everything out of the water so only if half of the GH3 consumers pick this up it will still run tight with RB.
Yeh i havent sold a rock band at my gamestop since probably february. and i’ve sold a ton of guitar hero’s. Even the first one.
“It hasn’t sld near as much as yo think. GH on the other hand has blown everything out of the water so only if half of the GH3 consumers pick this up it will still run tight with RB.”
Well, obviously (especially if you are lumping all the games into one vs. the singular Rock Band title). Nobody is debating that. Even I was one of those people who bought all of the Guitar Hero games besides the 80s one, so I really don’t see your point…does this mean that when you buy them once, you are a loyal consumer to the bitter end and will inevitably purchase their new game? Not likely. Saying that because more people bought the nearly half-as-expensive Guitar Hero titles than the more-expensive Rock Band, and they are thusly going to blindly set their sights on this more-expensive-than-Rock-Band game, just doesn’t make sense.
Guitar Hero 1, 2, 3, and 80s edition all came out prior to Rock Band. At that time, most people didn’t think that a full band ensemble game would work, or know if it was even possible. Well, 6 months later and we know that those people were wrong. Now we have Neversoft’s Guitar/Drum/Vocal Hero, and to me, this screams “COPYCAT” (which is enough to make me want to pass on it) as they are taking the Guitar Hero brand name and desperately reaching out to cover more gameplay avenues because the competition beat them to it.
And consider this, if you think that Rock Band wasn’t that big of a success, why is Neversoft so desperate to deliberately imitate the very thing that Harmonix has done, while at the same time arrogantly demanding a higher price point?
And if people think custom tracks are going to save this game, I wouldn’t be so sure. I see LAWSUIT written all over this, as I read songs are able to be distributed online. Anybody remember Napster? I mean, the “Before we actually sold music” Napster? Yeah, that ended well (actually, it kind of did for them, but they’re the exception nowadays). And how about the lawsuit involving YouTube/Viacom and all of the copyrighted content that is posted on that site? This would get sniffed out pretty quick I’d imagine. If they are forced to stay on the source console, then it isn’t such a big deal and it would probably be interesting, and then you’d see the same feature mimicked and improved upon in Rock Band 2.
u get tooo mad over this.
Who says I’m mad? Long responses don’t mean mad, even if that’s how you read them. I’m perfectly happy, especially knowing that I’m right.
I’m just saying GH has a larger fanbase. Many people were put off by the easier gameplay from RB so they are waiting for GH4. Also everyone is not going to want to shell out all the money for every instrument so they will be content with picking up the game and guitar bundle. As much as some of you dislike it this will be competing with RB if not crushing it. GH is just a more home friendly name and that is all there is to it.
“GH is just a more home friendly name and that is all there is to it.”
You mean ‘household’ name? Well, not once they start advertising every instrument…suddenly people will start asking “Why is it called Guitar Hero but I can play drums or sing?” That household name will suddenly become confusing and unfocused from it’s espoused selling point (i.e. guitar), any marketing expert (or novice) will tell you the same. Guitar Hero is now the follower, Rock Band is the leader…precisely why Guitar Hero is mimicking exactly what Harmonix did with Rock Band.
Guitar and game still costs $99. With this recession looming, a lot of people will be thinking twice.
Morty mentions alot that activision is copying harmonix? I beg to differ. Activision saw harmonix’s GH2 and came up with making a full-band game. Harmonix then decided to sell the GH name to activision and make a full-band game. Activision is now just claiming what’s there’s.
