Gears of War 2 goes “beyond” BioShock with storytelling

BioShock seems to be the go-to video game for storytelling comparisons these days, and according to Carlos Ferro, Gears of War 2’s story will be even more emotionally impacting than BioShock’s. Ferro does the voice for Dominic Santiago in Gears 2, and speaking to The Official Xbox Magazine he said that Gears 2’s storytelling goes “beyond” BioShock’s.
“It’s going to be more emotionally effecting than BioShock,” he says, “a lot happens.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a ramped up story, with John DiMaggio (the voice of Marcus Fenix) saying that the relationships and sequences in the game are “a lot deeper.”
I definitely wouldn’t consider the story to be one of the first game’s many strong points, but it does seem like a setting that has potential so it will be interesting to see how they plan on improving it - especially if it’s expected to surpass BioShock’s storytelling (although depending who you ask that might not actually be much of an accomplishment). But really, as long as there’s as much gratuitous violence and chainsawing as the original had, I’ll be happy.

Personally I don’t believe that such game as GoW 2 can surpass BioShock in storytelling. Well, we’ll see if that happens this November.
“A lot happens” and it’s “a lot deeper” doesn’t really give me much confidence in the claim that the storytelling has been upped.
But then, honestly, who cares? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: people who complain about the stereotypical space marine and the [lack of] storytelling in the first Gears game are retarded. You don’t play the game for cultural relevance and tearjerking scenes. You play it to chainsaw aliens in half.
It better.
BioShock sucks, yadda yadda yadda.
Wouldja koindly chainsaw that ahlien in half?
They must mean someone is going to die. They’ve mastered the art, I tell you!
