Microsoft Spring Showcase ‘08 Interview: CliffyB
As more details about Epic Games’ Gears of War 2 hit the internet I’m finding it more difficult not to salivate at the mere thought of playing this game. In this interview, Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski talks more about the plot, chainsaw duels, and plenty more. Hit the jump for a summary of the video.
CliffyB starts out by talking about the new plot. The Locusts are quite angry about getting their tails kicked the first time around, and they have returned with some kind of weapon that can sink entire cities. In addition to that, Dom is trying to find his wife, and the game begins with Dom getting a lead on her whereabouts.
CliffyB also informs us that Carmine will be back in Gears 2. Carmine? I don’t remember a Carmine. A quick Google search brought me to the YouTube video below that refreshed my memory. He’s the fellow in the helmet that died. I suppose Carmine is the Kenny of Gears of War.
There are quite a few new chainsaw executions such as cutting an enemy up their back from behind. Gears 2 will also introduce chainsaw duels. If a combatant catches you attempting to chainsaw them, you’ll both participate in a button-tapping face off. There is an occasional draw scenario, but players will normally find themselves on the winning or losing side. The chainsaw duels will take the same amount of time as a regular chainsaw kill.
Other notable changes to gameplay are being able to use enemies as meat shields and the ability to attempt to crawl away from being curb-stomped.
CliffyB has promised that there will be more multiplayer maps available out of the box than Gears 1 shipped with. 5-on-5 matches have also been introduced. He also discussed the addition of new multiplayer modes and expanded online functionality but said more information would be revealed later.
Gears of War 2 will be released this November for Xbox 360.
