Alone In The Dark: Scalin’ Buildings and Drivin’ Cars!
We’ve already seen impressive tech demos demonstrating the item mechanics as well as the physics in Atari’s Alone In The Dark, but these demos were vague on the action in the game. Fear not! New trailers for Alone In The Dark have emerged and showcases the driving mechanic and an action scene. Hit the jump for more banter as well as the driving and original game trailers.
In the first trailer above, the player is scaling the side of a building while various objects are exploding above and below him. The most exciting part of this trailer is when a car on the ground explodes and flies upward towards the player. Honestly, this probably would have killed me, and I hope there are more moments like this throughout the game. The developer’s attention to small details is demonstrated by the rats scurrying across the building ledge when the player climbs to the next level. Overall, I think this area just looks awesome.
Alone In The Dark - Driving Trailer
There isn’t as much to be said about the driving trailer. I noticed that the game instructs the player on how to toggle their headlights and wondered if toggling headlights would be useful later in the game or was just another detail. This trailer also demonstrates some voice acting which leaves something to be desired. That girl’s voice will change from sounding scared to sounding calm which is sure to annoy some. Are we in danger or not? Don’t ask her, because I’m sure she doesn’t know if we’re in danger either. Of course, I’m nitpicking about the voice acting, but when everything else looks so good, it’s hard not to notice details like that.
These trailers make waiting for this game difficult for a survival-horror fan like myself. What do you guys think after seeing these trailers? Have you added this game to your must-have list?
Alone In The Dark will be available June 24th for the Wii, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, and PC. A PlayStation 3 version has been confirmed, but no release date has been set.
