Guitar Hero 4: Multiple Instruments and Custom Tracks On The Way!

Would this surprise you?

Neversoft is out to prove once and for all that they aren’t going to take all of their ideas from a certain other rhythm game. The fact that Guitar Hero 4 will support drums, guitar, bass, and vocals is old news. In a shocking turn of events, Guitar Hero 4 will support a new feature that is ridiculously awesome. What will this feature be? Learn all of this and more after the jump!

In addition to multiple instruments, Guitar Hero 4 will support the creation of custom tracks. Players will have complete creative control over the drum, bass, and guitar portions of the tracks. Players will also be able to share their tracks across multiple platforms and even create their own album art. I don’t know how you all feel about this, but I can’t wait to see tracks from my favorite indy artists.

Linkin Park, The Eagles, Sublime, and Van Halen have all been confirmed for Guitar Hero 4’s setlist, and Neversoft has said that all songs featured in the game will be from Master tracks obtained from the record companies. Neversoft has also stated that there will be a heavy emphasis on the customization of instruments and players. Sweet.

The War of the Rhythm Games has certainly taken an interesting turn. As I recall, Harmonix has said that Rock Band is more like a platform than a video game, so the fact that Guitar Hero will be the first to allow custom tracks seems a little strange. I doubt Harmonix will take this development sitting down, so it will exciting to see how Harmonix responds. Come on, Harmonix! Are you going to let Neversoft win that easily?

With this much competition, gamers will certainly be in a win-win situation. What do you guys think? Is Neversoft getting on the ball, or is this destined to fail?

Guitar Hero 4 will be released this fall on Wii, PS3, PS2, and Xbox 360.

Yay for competition. Maybe this will make up for GH3.

Meh. Only way I’ll be interested in GHIV is if it supports the Rock Band instruments. No way am I going to be buying a whole extra set of equipment for a game I already essentially own, even if there ARE custom tracks.

I’m with Wonko. They had better get off their high horses and allow the Rock Band instruments to be used with it, or else it will fail. Nobody will want two fake plastic drum sets that only work with one game each.

Frankly, I don’t think I will ever buy another Guitar Hero game, unless by some strange circumstances, Harmonix gets back on as developer. They are musicians. They know music. Neversoft, not so much.

All I see is Rock Band v2 allowing the custom tracks, and I’d imagine Activision (where’s my fucking batteries?) won’t let you use Rock Band instruments. I actually sold Guitar Hero 1 & 2 because I have too many fucking music game peripherals. Custom tracks is a big deal, but EA/Harmonix will be all over that next release.

And as Dexter said, only if Harmonix is doing Guitar Hero will I be interested in it.
