Crytek Axes PC-Exclusive Policy

April 30th, 2008 | Category: Upcoming Games

GET TO THE CHOPPER

The president of Crytek Cevat Verli has revealed that Crytek will no longer develop games exclusively for the PC. In an interview with PC Play, Verli stressed the large number of gamers pirating Crysis:

“We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC gaming, piracy.”

This announcement gives weight to the rumor that Crysis is being ported to the three major consoles, but this rumor hasn’t been confirmed (or denied) by Crytek.

Guitar Hero: On Tour tracklist announced

April 30th, 2008 | Category: Upcoming Games

While it was originally announced that On Tour would sport a whopping 25 songs, Activision announced in Nintendo Power what will most likely be the 15 non-secret tracks. They are:

Do What You Want - OK Go
All The Small Things - Blink 182
Spiderwebs - No Doubt
Are You Gona Be My Girl - Jet
We’re Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister
All Star - Smash Mouth
Breed - Nirvana
Jessie’s Girl - Rick Springfield
Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar
This Love - Maroon 5
Heaven - Los Lonely Boys
Helicopter - Bloc Party
China Grove - The Doobie Brothers
Rock and Roll All Nite - KISS (cover by Line 6)
What I Want - Daughtry

I suppose it seems like a decent enough set list, but at this point I feel that it’s downright inexcusable to not be bringing AC/DC into the Guitar Hero franchise. I mean, c’mon! Oh well, there are still 10 yet-to-be-announced songs on there, so we’ll see how they round this off.

MTk’s Grand Theft Auto IV Review

April 30th, 2008 | Category: PlayStation 3, Reviews, Upcoming Games, Video, Xbox 360

That's right you cockbags!

Ok, to be honest, we’re not one of those fancy-schmancy sites that was given a copy of GTA IV in advance so we could put a review up on release day. Well, you know what I have to say to that? Not much, actually. To be honest it’s really quite reasonable. Still, I feel that we have a great little site here at MEGATONik and I didn’t want our loyal readers to think that we were going to be the ONLY ones to let this momentous occasion just fly by without putting in our own two cents on the game. After all, our forums are literally abuzz with the release of this giant of a game! Obviously, with the game only having been out a meager 24 hours it would be impossible for me to have actually beaten the game. However, I did end up spending the majority of my day on my couch playing this damn game until my eyes bled with nothing but a bottle of Dew and a bag of Twizzlers for sustenance.

So, how does GTA 4 stack up after about 7 hours of gameplay? Is it worth it? Does it live up to the hype? Is this really worth sixty of your hard-earned dollars? Without further ado, I present to you MEGATONik’s very own review of Grand Theft Auto IV! All you have to do is hit the jump!

Is it wrong that I look forward to 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand?

April 28th, 2008 | Category: Trailer, Upcoming Games

I never played the first 50 Cent game, because it looked like a pile of utter crap; a game that tried to be “gangsta” and just came off as a caricature of what it really wanted to be. The new game, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, focusing on the popular artist and his cronies, G-Unit, looks like it could be a good, stupid dose of fun. It takes place in the Middle East as Fiddy hunts down a diamond-encrusted skull, and (at least to me) the plot resembles some sort of quasi-Indiana Jones storyline. From what we know so far, the game will feature voice work from all of the artists in the game, as well as exclusive tracks, and will be played from a third-person perspective. It will also have co-op.

I really wanted to point out how fucking awesome this trailer is. 50 Cent singlehandedly wins the war on terrorism. I enjoyed it so much that I’ll ignore how everyone besides 50 is bleach-white, despite the game taking place in the Middle East. The game looks to be the equivalent of a good summer popcorn movie.

New Prince of Persia title will hit this holiday season

April 28th, 2008 | Category: Upcoming Games

1UP has brought us official word that a new Prince of Persia title is scheduled to hit stores before the end of the year. The game is being developed for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, and development will be handled by Ubisoft Montreal, creators of the PoP trilogy on the last generation of consoles and last fall’s Assassin’s Creed.

Ubisoft previously trademarked the title Prince of Persia Prodigy, but the title for this new game has not been announced. Ubisoft has, however, announced a “new breed of gameplay” and “brand-new illustrative art style.” If I had to guess, the new game will be a cel-shaded, first-person romp as the Prince transitions to the Artist Formerly Known as Prince and starts training a new generation of Arabian acrobats. You heard it here first.

Blockbuster expands its gaming variety

April 28th, 2008 | Category: Blu-ray, DS, Gaming Industry, PC, PSP, PlayStation 3, Retail, Xbox 360

Blockbuster is trying pretty hard to make its mark in the gaming retail department, just as many other store chains are trying to do. The company’s Game Rush service wants a piece of the game sale goldmine, which is why Blockbuster will be expanding the service by offering more accessories for consumers.

Starting today, Blockbuster will now carry software, hardware, and accessories for the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo DS systems. In addition to more offerings, the company will also be expanding the variety of games it has available for rent, as well as the number of existing rental copies.

Not only will the company be expanding its variety, but it will also try its best to get the gaming crowd’s attention with exclusive deals and promotions. One example, Blockbuster’s announcement explained a $499 PS3 bundle that included a 40GB system, an HDMI cable, Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray, Transformers: The Game, a Blu-ray DVD remote, and one free Blu-ray or PS3 game rental per week for 12 weeks. Blockbuster definitely wants to compete with GameStop.

Take note that the company hasn’t mentioned the PSP or PC in any of its offerings. Blockbuster hasn’t totally revealed if they’re ditching the two consoles or just not giving them any attention yet.

Virtual Console Monday: April 27, 2008

April 28th, 2008 | Category: Upcoming Games

Way to stiff us, Nintendo! Just one game this week? Honestly? It might be forgivable if it were an N64 game… say, Majora’s Mask or Jet Force Gemini? But nope, all we get is the fairly-good Double Dragon from the NES. To be fair, the original Double Dragon isn’t bad, it just lacks the single best part about the entire beat-’em-up genre: simultaneous multiplayer. For 500 Wii Points, you can definitely do better *cough*RiverCityRansom*cough* but you could also do a lot worse. After all, what could be better than two greased-up buff dudes rubbing their dragons against each other?
