EIEIO 2008: Overview

By Woody

Giant Cock

Yesterday morning I woke up and drove the two hours to Austin, TX, to attend Gamecock’s 2nd annual Expo For Interactive Entertainment, Independent and Original, or EIEIO. EIEIO showcased all 9 of the games they are currently publishing, some of them playable and some only being shown off by the developers. Last year EIEIO was held in Santa Monica, California, at the same time as E3, but this year was moved to Austin, where Gamecock’s main offices are located. Hit the jump to find out exactly what happened at EIEIO 2008.

Stubbs

I arrived at Jaime’s Spanish Village at 10:00, just as breakfast was ending. Shortly after, everyone walked across the street to Stubb’s BBQ, where the event was taking place. The journalists were divided into 7 different groups, each group visiting a different developer’s room, and rotating on the hour. The games being showcased were Hail to the Chimp, Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, Insectiside, Stronghold Crusader Extreme, Dungeon Hero, Mushroom Men, Velvet Assassin, Legendary, and Section 8. I wish I could say more about the games, but there is an embargo until Wednesday, when I will bring full details on all the games.

Mike Wilson and Woody

After the games were all demoed, Stubb’s was open to the public and 6 local and independent bands rocked out alongside a few burlesque dancers. I met Mike Wilson, founder of Gamecock, and hung out with the guys from Wideload (devs for Hail to the Chimp), and everyone there couldn’t have been nicer. I also picked up plenty of swag, which I am going to give away in a contest in the near future, so be on the look out for that. Overall, EIEIO 2008 was a great experience, and stay tuned until Wednesday, when I can give my impressions on the games shown.

Looking forward to hearing more about the games, although I’m a bit sick of hearing about Gamecock as a publisher.

By the way, in that first paragraph it’s a little unclear, in that you make it sound like EIEIO is publishing games. It’s some sort of dangling modifier or something like that.

Sweet. Did you get to ride the cock in the first image?

No Zizzy, I’ve never been on top of a cock in my life and I aim to keep it that way.

Sweetness man. Did you ever get my business cards printed for you?
