Dear Bungie: An open letter to the developers of Halo 3
Dearest Bungie:
I realize that this may or may not make me sound like a broken record, but Halo 3’s matchmaking system is broken. No, not simply flawed or a little borked but full-blown broken.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a strong proponent of the Halo games since Halo 2 when everyone started complaining about Halo’s matchmaking system. I stuck behind it, saying that it was a solid system that worked well (for the most part). Come Halo 3, I was very excited when I heard about different ranks and everything. My spirits were high and my hopes were higher.
However, I quickly learned about just how broken Bungie’s matchmaking system is. First off, how is it that I, a Grade 2 Commander, am consistently being matchmade, in ranked games mind you, with Generals? How does this make sense? The General is obviously better than me, yet has a small rank in some secondary playlist (like Ranked Big Team). How is this fair at all?
Secondly, it is ridiculous how Xbox Live allows for multiple Xbox Live Gold accounts. Once many players hit 50 in a certain playlist, they shift over to a secondary account to play on, utilizing the free month of Gold service that comes with each new account. So, in many cases, I’ll actually be playing people who have leveled up to 50, but the game will recognize them as only marginal players because of the novelty of the account. This, Bungie, is bullshit. How can you let 50s play on new accounts disguised as 13s or 27s?
I play Halo 3 for about an hour a day. As I said before, I’m currently a Grade 2 Commander, stuck at a rank of 36. People consistently surpass me in rank, and ocassionally I get simply owned in combat. As I said, I play for an hour a day, a relatively large amount considering my busy daily schedule. How the hell am I supposed to keep up with these no-life Halo-tards that waste the majority of their lives on the game? Honestly, it’s just unfair to ask of me to play that much. I can’t even have fucking fun with the game.
So, in conclusion, thank you Bungie for adding another assinine level of complication to Halo 3’s matchmaking system. I can’t even have any fun with the game because I’m consistently being virtually bashed by Generals, or disguised Generals, and will never play the game again. I want my $60 back.

I found the new ranking system of generals and privates to be a terrible idea. All you have to do is win any kind of matchmade game to rank this up. So you can go play some unranked matches against a bunch of guest noobies and you will level.
I think the number rank is the best way to go. If Bungie absolutely must have that secondary rank symbol thing then it should be given out according to the average of all your ranks.
I suppose you have a solution to the issue that people can just start new accounts? Perhaps we should only allow one account per XBox? That’s stupid.
Frankly, I never had much of an issue with this when I played Halo a ton. I would get raped every so often, but then I’d just start up a new game and go from there. You’re not going to be able to compete with everybody.
Add this to the fact that many/most games don’t even HAVE a ranking system, let alone one as robust as Halo 3’s, and it really just seems like you’re complaining for the sake of complaining.
Complaining for the sake of complaining? I wouldn’t spend my time writing this down if I didn’t think it was true. Complaining just to complain is something you do aloud, not in writing.
Have you played Halo 3 lately, Dex? I’m known as a pretty solid player, yet still I got crushed in nearly all of the games that I played today? Why? Because I was simply outranked by the other people that I was matchmade with.
In all honesty, I’d much rather have CoD4’s “matchmaking” system or lackthereof in Halo than the bullshit that Bungie is pulling.
I haven’t played Halo 3 for a while so it’s not as fresh in my mind, but there were a few things I disagreed with…

How can you not let them? I don’t mean it’s a good thing, but I really don’t think there’s a solution. There’s no way to give a player his real rank without just letting him play lower until he reaches it.
Also, the level system works so that you keep advancing until you are at your actual skill level. Maybe you’ve reached your limit, and 36 is your ideal level. You don’t necessarily advance just for playing a certain amount.
And you’re not expected to keep up with people who just play Halo all day, that’s why they advance and you don’t - they’re willing to dedicate far too much time and so get better while you only have an hour a day to improve. It wouldn’t make sense if you got treated differently just because you had less time to play.
Yeah, I guess I just don’t know what you expect. It’s not Bungie’s fault that some people are good, and it’s not like they can invent a magical system that rates somebody’s skill just by looking at them. And even then, if you get matched up against a 50, it’s not like you can always get matched up to people right at your skill level.
Hi i am online gamer and i have vs some of you guys before and i seen the recon and i thought it was cool and i thought it would be cool to have it and i thank bungie is awsome and i would love it if you guys would give it to me.

Hi bungie i am a online gamer and like playing halo 3 every time i git on there I would always like to have recon but since I am not a bungie member i can’t have recon.So i got on here to send you a email to ask if i could have recon.If I don’t get recon I don’t care but I would realy like to have it and if I got it i would realy be on my best game behaver.
P.S. HALO 3 IS the best game I ever played.
dear: Bungie YOU KNOW recon armor on halo3. It looks cool and i had a idea like if some body does well in a game and has like 22 kills or something.And helps his team you should reward them with recon but not the flames if you accept this
then i’m shure every body will be glad with that.
p.s. halo 3 would probaly be better like that i’m notmaking fun of the game i’m just trying to get you to put recon as a reward.

dear bungie i would like to have reacon so if you could try to please give it to me that would be great if you can not its ok but if you could try that would be cool and like i said if i can not get it that is allright.
