SouthPeak Games to Release Things on Wheels on XBox Live

By Razak

Pretty reflections…ooooooo.

Word has come to us that SouthPeak games is releasing their first XBox Live game in the form of Load Inc.’s Things on Wheels. The game will be a “pure arcade title placing players at the helm of radio-controlled (“RC”) cars as they race through a gigantic Florida Art Deco house filled with “tracks” comprised of everyday household items – and more.” No word yet on what the “and more” is, but trust us we’ll keep you up to date on all the searing details…or not.

The game sounds like it could be a pretty fun racer since Load Inc. is responsible for the somewhat decent Mad Tracks and know how to make a racing game. Plus any company that lists their two major cares as gaming and their coffee machine can’t be all bad as gaming and coffee machines are two of my major cares in the world too. Still, SouthPeak’s CEO, Melanie Mroz, saying that RC racing had never been done before kind of negates all those RC racers that had come before, don’t you think? What about the Micro Machines, Ms. Mroz? How easily we forget.

Grapevine, Texas – January 30, 2008 – SouthPeak Games has announced its first foray onto Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft with Things On Wheels (ToW). ToW is an accessible, pure arcade title placing players at the helm of radio-controlled (“RC”) cars as they race through a gigantic Florida Art Deco house filled with “tracks” comprised of everyday household items – and more. Developed by experienced Xbox LIVE Arcade alumni Load Inc., ToW promises to deliver plenty of RC racing fun when released in summer 2008. ToW has also been confirmed for release on Windows-based PCs,

“Load Inc. wanted to do something brand new with the racing genre, and this really appealed to us,” said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games. “Competing with real life remote control cars is great fun, so why not do it in a videogame? ToW delivers the same reckless thrill.”

Races in ToW take place on nonlinear tracks that go from room to room in an expansive house. Normal, everyday objects become obstacles and hazards for player’s miniature vehicles to race through. Any challenge could have a player picking up speed in the straightaway of the foyer, dodging the searing coils of the electric stove, catching some air to clear a stack of magazines in the way, and thousands of other possibilities.

“ToW is what the Xbox LIVE Arcade community has been asking for since day one. It’s a competitive racing game with bits of fun and lots of interactivity if you just want to goof around. After Mad Tracks, we had to concentrate on just racing, but always with a twist,” said Denis Bourdain, big wig at Load Inc. “It’s a fresh racing experience we built on everything we’ve learned in the past 12 years, and it will rock you! We’re very proud to be working with one of the sexiest publishers today. All of our developer friends are just plain jealous. SouthPeak rules!”

In January, SouthPeak Interactive, LLC and Global Services Partners Acquisition Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: GSPA, GSPAB, GSPAW, GSPAZ) jointly announced that they have agreed to a business combination resulting in a new publicly held entity that will be called SouthPeak Interactive Corporation. The transaction will allow SouthPeak to access the public markets to accelerate its growth strategy and take advantage of strong industry growth trends.

It’s funny because it’s the same publisher that released Mad Tracks.

Now, now, it’s not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean.

Hey BFeld, how about this one? I loved Micro Machines on the NES. I thought it was so amazing that you could drive into a billiard pocket and come out another one.
