Activision Ranked #1 U.S. Console and Handheld Games Publisher January - November 2007

CoD 4

This has been a really hot year for video games. One company in particular has had an amazingly successful year. According to The NPD Group (a company who provides consumer and market research information) Activision was the “#1 U.S. console and handheld publisher for the first eleven months of calendar 2007.

Activision’s market share over the eleven month period had risen to a whopping 16.8% (a 7.9% increase over last year). For the month of November, the company’s success can be attributed to the multi-platform releases of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO of Activision stated in a press release, “We continue to see strong consumer response to our wholly owned and internally developed titles…We are well positioned to continue our leadership position through the remainder of the year and are on track to delivering another record year of revenue growth and the most profitable year in our history.”

For those readers out there who can’t paraphrase execu-speak, I’ll translate that last paragraph: “Wow, you gamers really like Guitar Hero and Call of Duty games don’t you? Thanks to all of you wonderful consumers, we’ve made buckets of money most of this year. There’s little doubt that we’ll end the year with the most money we’ve ever made.”
