Facebook: Casual gaming’s newest victim

Facebook. It’s the new sensation that’s sweeping the nation. Everyone and their dead grandmother has a Facebook. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to not have one. The newest craze to hit the Book of Face are the new applications which let you rate your friends’ hotness or even play games.
While watching one of my friends try to beat his personal high score, I remarked, “Why would you ever want to play this?” His response was “I don’t play them because I think they’re fun. I play them because I want to brag to all my friends about my high score.” So are these games worth your time and dignity? Hit the jump to find out.

WarBook
Honestly, I can’t figure this thing out. If you’re wondering why it’s called WarBook, wonder no longer. The reason is that it doesn’t actually have any war. It’s like reading a book about war. A really boring book. I tried it for about five minutes and couldn’t figure out what the hell I was doing. Gameplay consists of typing random numbers into boxes and then typing more numbers into other boxes.
Final Verdict: Less fun than dog rape

StreetRace
It’s called StreetRace, so was I wrong to expect a racing game? Apparently yes. StreetRace’s motto should “All of the fun of driving without the driving!” The premise is that you buy a car, then you click on opponents to race. However, instead of actually racing them, it just tells you the track you would have raced on and the equipment each car has on it. Then you click “Race!” and the game calculates who would have won. Then you can use the arbitrary money awarded to buy arbitrary parts and arbitrary cars!
Final verdict: Number one cause of cancer

Jetman
Jetman is a very simple game. The jetman flies automatically but clicking will make him rise and letting go will make him fall. The jetman must avoid obstacles. The simple gameplay is surprisingly addictive, plus it’s got leaderboards, high score tracking and the ability to challenge friends. Unfortunately, the experience is dampened by the fuckballsingly (new word) inane comments of the developer, Sim D. Just reading his announcements make me want to hunt him down and punch him in the face.
Final verdict: I can understand why you would play it, but I’ll still make fun of you behind your back.

Kick Ups
It’s that game where you keep clicking the soccer ball to keep it in the air. It’s got leaderboards. But wait, there’s more! Apparently, you can juggle a football (wow!)or even your friends avatar! Not much too much say about it.Final verdict: More exciting than StreetRace

Scrabulous
It’s like Scrabble, but it’s fabulous as well. Honestly, this app is okay. You can challenge someone to a game, but it goes in volleys. This way, you don’t have to sit in front of a screen for 3 hours watching your pedophile opponent spell out not-so-subtle hints. I like Scrabble, but I like it better in real life.
Final verdict: Blatant copyright infringement

Bunchball Games
Actually…. this one’s okay. It’s a collection of flash games in one app, and it actually has a good amount of multiplayer, stat tracking, and avatar customization. Games include variants of Tetris and Sudoku. Another strong point is that the app is not cluttered with creepy spam ads. It’s clean and simple.
Final verdict: I’ll actually link to this one

Fight Club
This game was developed by the same people who made the award-winning StreetRace! You pick a generic avatar, then train them by clicking on pictures of bicycles and punching bags. Then you click on a fighter you want to challenge and the computer does all the work. For a minute there, i thought I’d actually have to play a real game.
Final verdict: Who the hell would choose to play this?
I’m going to be candid with all of you for a second. You can find these games anywhere on the web and play them in secret shame for hours on end. No one’s greatest accomplishment should be scoring over 10,000 in Jetman (and I know people who have) or having over 1,00 Kick Ups (which I have also seen). These games epitomize why casual gaming is something to fear, not embrace.

Man, I hate Facebook.
Facebook is fine. Useless and moronic applications are not.
I lol’d at the “I don’t play them because I think they’re fun. I play them because I want to brag to all my friends about my high score.” Quote. I don’t suppose anybody else knows about the Xbox kid meme?
Never used Facebook, it was college-student exclusive (elitist pricks) after I graduated college and I haven’t bothered signing up since it’s been evidently opened up to anyone now. If I have anything important enough to ask my friends or talk to them about, I’ll call them up or meet them at the bars or something.
whats the cheat code to kickups
“If I have anything important enough to ask my friends or talk to them about, I’ll call them up or meet them at the bars or something” so you’re browsing the net and you find a funny youtube link so you go meet him down the bar to tell him about it? you sound like a riot. but its not just about having important things to tell your friends its finding out about what important things your friends have to tell you, you get to hear about so many more parties and nights out etc through facebook than any other means
Games Fight Club and StreetRace are the stupidest shit ever invented, the game is not even accurate… i was able to beat sum1 that had 70 acceleration and 50 top speed while i had 35 accel and 35 top speed LOL HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE.
Also Fight club is soo bad for the same reason.
