Xbox Live Silver Memberships Get Even Less Useful
Seems that all those people out there with Xbox Live Silver accounts are going to have to take another bullet for the betterment of the Gold members. Major Nelson informs us that from now on, Silver members are going to have to wait a week in order to download demos and other downloadable content that Gold members will be getting right away. The good Major also offered up a bit of an explanation:
“This is not done to annoy our Silver members—limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Gold Xbox Live account.”
Really? Not done to annoy anyone? Why, then, is Microsoft displaying the updates that Silver members can’t get with a big red X across them, practically pointing at it and saying, “Ha, you can’t have this!?” Maybe they actually want Silver members to see what they’re missing and thus be annoyed that they’re missing it and get a Gold account? Maybe? Contrary to Major Nelson’s statement, it seems the very purpose of the whole decision was to indeed annoy the hell out of Silver members. And remember this doesn’t actually make your Gold account any better; it just makes it not suck as much as the Silver. To make a terrible analogy, it’s as if a man is not punching you in the face and points at someone else who he is punching in the face and says, “There, haven’t I made your life better by not punching you in the face?” Your life isn’t any better than it was before; it’s just not worse.
Of course it’s a moot point since most people reading this already have a Gold account (and goodonya). Is this going to be a problem for anyone? Anyone actually getting a Gold account because of it?

This is especially stupid for single-player content, like the BioShock stuff in the picture. Some people just don’t play online, but still want to get stuff as soon as it comes out. If you’re not going to play online though, I don’t think it would be worth $50 just so you don’t have to wait a week.
Also, it says “check again in a few days” - now they’re just being assholes, since they know it won’t be free for a whole week.

Wow, what a bunch of cock asses. I am not blessed with a solid connection right now, so Live play is almost impossible without getting a crapton of lag. Fuck you too, M$.
