Review: Zoo Hospital

I’ve never gotten a chance to play a game like Trauma Center before, so this whole hospital feeling is brand spanking new to me. After playing Zoo Hospital, however, I’m not so sure if all hospital sims are like this. And I really, REALLY, pray that they all aren’t.

Read on for a review of a game everyone should avoid.

Not really a story here. Your Aunt Lucy has invited you to join her at a world-famous zoo, and become her intern while helping to treat a handful of sick animals.

Here is my biggest problem with Zoo Hospital: It gets so repetitive in such a little amount of time. As soon as you start the game, you understand your task in less than 2 minutes, and you’ll soon learn that you’ll be doing the same exact thing for the rest of the game. The cycle is like this: Scroll around the zoo’s map to find a sick animal, tap the animal with the stylus, press various icons to take the animal’s body temp, x-ray, weight, etc., and do a 5 second mini-game to treat the animal. Do this for the rest of the video game. Nothing more, nothing less. In all honestly, cleaning the fecal matter from each and every animal’s cage would be more fun than treating each sick animal’s problem in the game. None of the procedures last for more than a minute, and they’re just all so simple. You just tap various icons to do specific tasks, touch a certain place on the animal, and you’re done. You get graded on how careful and efficient you were on each animal procedure. Players can also earn awards for how well they perform. Not like that last part increases gameplay at all, but I guess it can be fun for tikes to look at.

Graphics are okay. I liked the way some of the animals look and moved around, but they repeat their animations and do nothing else. Nothing is noticeably good or bad in the graphics department of Zoo Hospital.

In the time I’ve played for, all I heard 3 different songs. All of them became very annoying after hearing them over and over again. Not only is the music repetitive, but so are the animal sounds. They constantly are screeching in pain or joy while you operate on them. The sound issue ties in with the repetitive gameplay.

I wouldn’t play this game for more than 10 minutes of my life if I had a choice. Honestly, there isn’t much at all you’ll find fun or exciting about this game.

Ignore this game. This is the most repetitive piece of junk I’ve played in a long time. I may recommend this game to very little kids, but then again, there are even better alternatives to children games than this. Don’t bother with Zoo Hospital unless your aim is to be disappointed.

- Some animals look pretty good

- Dull game play
- Annoying music and animal sounds
- Not fun or exciting at all
- No real reason to be playing this game in the first place

1.5/5

Still slightly better than Tamagotchi DS.

Don’t ask me why I can say that.

So, it gets a 1.5 instead of a 1 because of its one redeeming quality, the fact that some of the animal models are good?

So only one game ever can get a 1.0. Got it.
