WordJong, a game that really calls out for me

I’ve pretty much grown a weakspot for puzzle games in the past few weeks, especially after picking up Meteos: Disney Magic. I came across WordJong, one of the best selling downloadable online games of all time. I decided to check the game out myself. WordJong, developed by Destineer, is pretty much an extreme version of Scrabble that’s being ported to the Nintendo DS with a ton of added features and Wi-Fi. This excites me quite a bit, seeing on how I’m loving the puzzle genre lately and I’m a huge fan of Scrabble, yet I never have friends to play it with (Wi-Fi totally solves this problem).

Be sure to stay tuned for my review of the game as soon as it comes out later this week. Read on for the press release.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - November 12, 2007 - Destineer announces today that the
Nintendo DST version of the hard-to-resist puzzle sensation WordJong has
shipped, and will be on store shelves by the end of the week. One of the
best-selling downloadable games online, WordJong is made even better with
DS-exclusive features like Daily Mode, Temple Challenge Mode, Local Wireless
and NintendoR Wi-Fi Connection multiplayer, and more!

WordJong features simple, yet engrossing gameplay: Use a set of lettered
tiles to create words, clearing the board as you use tiles. Shoot for
high-scoring words, earn bonus tiles, and attempt to clear the board with no
leftover letters. WordJong boasts several new features exclusive to the
Nintendo DS system, including:

  • Solo Play: Play through one of three highly addictive game modes.
Choose a puzzle from the calendar and try to beat the computer’s high score
in Daily Mode. Accumulate rank medals as you climb your way to the top in
Temple Challenge Mode. Or, defeat each of the seven AI characters in
    head-to-head matches in Tournament Mode.
  • Multiplayer Modes: Go head-to-head with a friend over Local
Wireless, or connect to the internet via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and take
on players from around the world. Have a friend without the game? Use the DS
Download Play option to gift a puzzle or play head-to-head using just one
    game!
  • Zodiac Characters: Take on stylized characters from the Chinese
zodiac throughout all of the game modes. Each of the seven characters has
his or her own personality and play style, representing a different
difficulty level ranging from easy (the Rabbit) to hard (the Dragon).
  • Additional Features: WordJong features a 100,000+ word dictionary,
loads of challenges and awards to acquire, full support for both the Control
Pad and Touch Screen, and much, much more!
  • WordJong is developed by Magellan Interactive from an original design by
Gameblend Studios, and is scheduled for an November 2007 release, with a
MSRP of $19.99. For more information, please visit www.destineerstudios.com.

Looks pretty fun. Too bad I don’t have a DS…
