Rock Band downloadable content to smite GHIII’s

Nobody told me but apparently November 8th is national “announce your rhythm game’s DLC day,” otherwise known as Boxing Day in Canada. Sure, I might not think the highest of Canadians, but please don’t be offended by what I’ve just said; I know Boxing Day is just fake Thanksgiving.

Anyway, the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, known simply as OXM to you abbrev. lovers, has revealed a slew of new downloadable songs for Harmonix and MTV Games’ upcoming rhythm game, Rock Band. In addition to the songs that were announced in the past, including tracks from The Grateful Dead, The Who and Nirvana, the following songs will also eventually join the DLC ranks:

- The Police - Roxanne, Synchronicity II, Can’t Stand Losing You
- Queens of the Stone Age - Sick Sick Sick (ew), 3s and 7s (double ew), Little Sister
- Metallica (songs TBA)
- David Bowie (songs TBA)
- Black Sabbath (songs TBA)
- “Punk Pack” featuring songs by The Clash, The Buzzcocks and The Ramones
- Credence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Fortunate Son
- Foreigner - Jukebox Hero
- The Knack - My Sharona
- The Pretenders - Brass in a Pocket
- Radiohead - My Iron Lung
- The Runaways - Cherry Bomb
- T-Rex - Bang a Gong
- Weezer - Buddy Holly
- Wolfmother - Joker and the Theif

Well, then, that was exhausting! In retrospect, Rock Band has a much more solid list of downloadable content than its main competitor, Guitar Hero III. If the boys at MTV Games can afford to make the songs cheaper, say only $1/song, they’d win the DLC battle hands down.

Since songs cost that much on iTunes, and they don’t have to be customized for playing along with, I doubt they can get them that low. Considering that every song in Rock Band has to work with not only guitar (and bass) but drums and vocals too, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are even a little more than GH3.

I hope they make them cheap though, because that would be awesome - but I just don’t think they can if they want to make a profit.

Guys with beer mugs on their heads = NOT FOREIGNER.

Why must you hate on Queens of the Stone Age? Sure, their songs were hard to play on GH, but nonetheless, their sound is unique and amazing.

Personally, I would want to see “The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret” by them.

    Also, lulz at T-Rex.

QotSA sounds like something I just did on masterledz’s mom’s face.

Queens of the Stone Age = Amazing.
Buzzcocks and The Clash = Kickass.
    The Ramones = Untalented.

I love the downloads list though.

You played music on masterledz’s mom’s face?

What a waste, I can think of way better uses for her face (her mouth specifically).

There are so many better Weezer songs than Buddy Holly, but I’m still pleased.

The Police are an awesome addition.

Agree with the WTF? on the QOTSA hate. They aren’t some shitty death metal band. Stoner rock at it’s finest.

Bleh, all I’ve heard of there’s was 3s and 7s.

Suffice it to say, I did not approve.

QotSA sounds like an extremely long and detailed STD…

“Bleh, all I’ve heard of there’s was 3s and 7s.”

You need to get the ‘Rated R’ torrent, if just for ‘Feel Good Hit of the Summer’, and the amazing-when-you’re-high-I’d-imagine ‘Better Living Through Chemistry’. Their self titled debut, which is available approximately nowhere, is also grand. I didn’t like ‘Songs for the Deaf’ as much as everyone else…’Lullabies to Paralyze’ is simply phenomenal, especially for ‘Broken Box’ (’take that fuckin’ pussy elsewhere’) or ‘Everybody Knows That You’re Insane’ or ‘Burn the Witch’. I thought Era Vulgaris was a slight letdown, but there’s some good stuff on there, but I already know you won’t like ‘Sick Sick Sick’.

Anyway, 3’s and 7’s isn’t such a great song IMHO, and personally, I think the guys from Neversoft added some of their own shit, as the song sounds slightly different. I’m Designer, now there’s a song…if it weren’t for the “Counter proposal: I go home and jerkoff” line or the “just like diamonds in shit” line, it would be a grand GH song.
