GTA IV Release Date Set…for Sometime
Despite pressure from the gaming industry for some sort of tentative release date for Grand Theft Auto IV, Take-Two Interactive chairman Strauss Zelnick still refuses to commit. GTA IV still stands stagnant as one of the several highly anticipated games that have been delayed from a holiday ‘07 to an early ‘08 release.
If you can recall, Grand Theft Auto IV was originally slated for a November release on PS3 and Xbox 360 and that back in August, Rockstar told Take-Two about the team hitting “developmental roadblocks”. GTA IV, which is currently scheduled for an eventful Q1 2008 release, will likely compete for the spotlight next year with Mercenaries 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Super Smash Bros Brawl.
At a recent North American financial services conference, Zelnick explains why humility slow and steady wins the race.
“[Take2 is] going to give a firm date when we are utterly convinced that we have it and that isn’t right now…We know it’s highly anticipated. Right now our view is to put out a high quality title and we’re not in the business of disappointing investors.”
Zelnick also shot his wad about GTA IV’s rumored exclusive Xbox 360 downloadable content:
“It’s something we ought to be doing and my guess is that’s where the industry is going. If you believe over time that package goods will be supplemented very much with online downloadable content, and you believe as I do that the future of playing interactive entertainment is networked multiplayer, then there’s every reason to believe that downloadable content makes all kinds of sense,…And eventually if you have a packaged good and you sell upgrades it’s a pretty terrific business model for everyone. I think it could be really interesting, but to be clear, it’s not in our plans and we’re not relying on it for our success.”

I can’t wait for the day that GTA IV will be realeased! I really want to play this game.. It looks awesome! I think will buy an xbox360 just to play it..
