New Mass Effect combat vid; generic is good
What’s the first thing that popped into your head about this new Mass Effect gameplay video? Awesome? Generic? For me, it was a bit of the both of them. I think the actual word was “awesoneric.” Shooting aliens is one of the oldest video game motifs, but Mass Effect takes that theme to a new level. The game looks to be about more than just shooting aliens; instead, it looks to be about shooting aliens with a purpose. Anyway, the combat thus far looks very pretty, and very fun what with all of the different guns that you can use to annihilate your prey. I can’t wait for the game to drop later in November.

I’m curious who this game is supposed to appeal to. Most hardcore shooter fans probably don’t want to have to deal with all those numbers and dialogue and crap, while hardcore RPG fans might not care for the generic FPS/TPS combat. With that in mind, it seems strange that so many people are so excited about this.
Let’s remember, Dexter, that not everybody falls into one of those two categories. Sure, you’ve got the Halo freaks on one hand (who play nothing but Halo) and RPG fans on the other, but I don’t think that a hardcore RPG fan would object to playing this game based on the combat.
And anyways, most people aren’t hardcore FPS fans or RPG fans and like a balance of many genres of games. That said, I don’t understand why more people aren’t excited about this game.
Touché.
I’m excited just because it seems to be a spiritual successor of Knights of the old Republic.
