It’s looking like a great track list, and while it may not have as many songs as Guitar Hero III each one has to be made to work with more than just guitar and bass, so a lot more work goes in to every track. Rock Band will certainly have some awesome songs, and and you can look forward to it draining your wallet even further when it’s released on November 20th.

[UPDATE]
If you don’t know all the songs or want to listen to them again to refresh your memory on how awesome many of them are, here is a playlist of them (unfortunately some of them can’t be embedded, so if they don’t work just follow the previous link and listen to them there):

[Thanks to the always helpful Guitar Hero III/Rock Band aficionado kagatoASUKA89 for getting all these songs together]

Fucking shit, I MUST buy Rock Band. The 70s songs are too much to pass up.

  2. kagatoASUKA89 October 27th, 2007 12:34 am

Why is there no Cowbell controller for Fear the Reaper!?

God, this looks so good. Garbage? Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Weezer? Excellent.

I bet one of the drum pads will act as a cowbell for Blue Oyster Cult.

I played Say it Ain’t So at E for All (twice) and it was probably the most fun I’ve had with a rhythm game ever.

  5. lawl October 27th, 2007 9:12 am

    Foo Fighters “Learn to Fly”

Jet “Are You Gonna Be My Girl”
Red Hot Chili Peppers “Dani California”

    Holy shit, purchase CONFIRMED.

  6. MightyHorse October 27th, 2007 9:59 am

Pixies “Wave of Mutilation” should be in the 80’s unless they recorded a new version in the last 7 years.

  7. deez October 27th, 2007 4:01 pm

when you tap the microphone, that acts as a cowbell/tamborine for rock band.

  8. Poopface Morty October 27th, 2007 4:12 pm

I wish NIN had a different song up there, but oh well, it’s radio friendly; I suppose Starfuckers would not have been a possibility. :(

I want this one pretty good.

  9. Sobriquet October 27th, 2007 6:43 pm

    Electric Version?!

    Fuck yeah!

  10. Norm Loman October 27th, 2007 11:13 pm

Wave of Mutilation is not from 2000s. Its an older song from the late 80s.

Wave of mutilation seems to be one of the few good songs on this list. I cant believe they put good songs by the Pixies, Radiohead, and David Bowie next to crappy songs by Bon Jovi and Kiss.

And why the hell did they include “Here it Goes Again”. Can’t they predict that it will soon be forgotten as a one hit wonder. It’s already on commercials and being played to death on the radio. I’m already tired of it.

  11. dave October 27th, 2007 11:35 pm

…. Is anybody else kind of disappointed? I honestly was expecting more (and better) songs. Where the hell is the hendrix, zeppelin, sex pistols, (better) rush, iron maiden, judas priest, and the like? Does anybody remember the Welcome to the Jungle video that was going around awhile back? And where’s the full black album we were promised?

I was a major supporter of RB>GH3, but now I’m not so sure.

Here’s to hoping we get a LOT of downloadable content in the future.

  12. Justin Anthony Knapp October 28th, 2007 12:09 am

Wave of Mutilation was from the 1990s.

  13. kball75 October 28th, 2007 1:51 am

Smoking, drinking some beers, and playing 18 Dead songs is going to be incredible. It’s a Jerry Garcia simulator!!

  14. Jax October 28th, 2007 2:25 am

    @ dave
What were you expecting for a Rush song, La Villa Stangiato, Jacob’s ladder, 2112? no way, they gotta put the commercial stuff on there.

  15. sleepy October 28th, 2007 3:18 am

I’m impressed. Just simply wow. Yeah, you could gripe about some of the music choices for Rock Band (Bon Jovi, Ok Go, or Radiohead’s “Creep” over “Just”), but most of the selection wows me in a good way. Garbage? Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun?” “Welcome Home” by Coheed and Cambria? I’m liking this game more and more.

  16. backflip October 28th, 2007 9:02 am

Bah, I am disappointed that there’s no Hendrix or Zeppelin on the list. Honestly, I was hoping one of the two blockbuster rhythm games would pick them up… Ugh.

  17. Andrew October 28th, 2007 3:51 pm

Justin K.: “Wave of Mutilation” came out on Doolittle in ‘89.

Sleepy’s spot on: you can argue taste, but they’ve done a great job pulling good songs from great bands.

I’ll be surprised if they’re ever able to license songs from Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin.

  18. xpxmxrenegade October 29th, 2007 1:10 am

you better believe “WELCOME HOME” will be the hardest guitar part in the whole game. geez that song will be the shit. the drums in the beginng are beastly.

  19. Andy October 29th, 2007 2:40 pm

    EXIT LIGHT! ENTER NIGHT!!!!

  20. Brendan November 7th, 2007 7:35 pm

Put some Rise Against into Rock Band!!!! I know that they have Prayer of the Refugee for Guitar Hero 3 but they have so many songs that would be perfect for Rock Band and Guitar Hero. I want more!!!!

  21. G-RAIDED November 26th, 2007 11:54 am

you guys will prolly hate my coment, but i say enough with the bull shit 70’s/80’s music, where is system of a down toxicity, or tool schism, or linkin park a place for my head, all would especially go great with rockband. if i hear kiss in another game soundtrack ima fuckin loose it. i get it already there legends of rock or w/e but im so sick of hearing that shit. next guitar hero they make, or rock band part II or w/e should only include music from this millennium, or better yet have a way to put your own songs in the game, and make your own cords

  22. godsmiter12 November 29th, 2007 11:44 pm

dude yes they should get some stephen lynch for the guitar and Tenacious D cuz they kick fucking shit

  23. damico529@aol.com November 30th, 2007 4:43 am

yea ill admit that i want to buy this but im disapointed with the songs, the only bands i actually like are metallica and iron maiden but the games fun so i guess itll still be fun hah

  24. Manny November 30th, 2007 12:14 pm

Rock Band needs some System of a Down songs on it that would be bad ass

This so rocks exept for one song, The Outlaws song SUCKS! You have to play it in rock tour mode to get to better songs. I wish there was a pass this! Other than that this game rocks!

I would give it higher than a 8 out of 10 if they removed The Outlaws.

  28. Van Hendrix December 24th, 2007 12:39 pm

For what a game like this has accomplished … a game that takes Air Guitar, Table-Top Drumming, and Shower Singing … to be whined about because it doesn’t have LedZep or Hendrix or some other “classic rock radio” staples, well, damn, that’s just pathetic.

This is one of the best games on the market, and when you consider the DLC ability to … yes, that’s right … ADD SONGS IN THE FUTURE WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY A NEW GAME (*cough*GH*cough*) … then this is an investment well worth the replay value AND highly probable future content.

Get over yourselves … for reals

  29. the dude man December 29th, 2007 8:25 pm

this is really a great game, its fun and is kind of addicting pluse most of the songs rock. though they really need something to add your your own songs and make the music that would be cool. ‘hint hint’

  30. Jorrdo January 5th, 2008 3:12 pm

there needs to be more songs. you end up playing the same damn 6 songs for the whole career mode and i’m dreading the day it makes me do fallout boy. GET MORE CHILI PEPPERS

  31. GodofThunder5477 January 21st, 2008 3:21 pm

The Microphone can be used as a cowbell/tamborine

  32. B-R3@L January 28th, 2008 7:47 pm

i thin you should have some grindcore and screamo songs on because they have some of the craziest drums and guitar parts and you should put a couple rap songs liek crank that with travis barker party like a rockstar the song rockstar and other ones that can be converted to the game and put the songs into the market place

  33. Joseph hernandez February 5th, 2008 4:37 pm

F N GAY MAN! MY DOG TOTALLY ATE MY MICROPHONE WIRE! STUPID ANIMALS THESE DAYS DESERVE TO GO TO HELL!

  38. zizzy March 25th, 2008 7:14 pm

    @Joe Dubazar
Don’t worry, you’ll get it back eventually…but it probably won’t work anymore and I doubt you’ll want to touch it after what it’ll have been through.

  39. toolio April 5th, 2008 4:40 pm

to bad no tool or linkon park y wont tool just let rock band use there songs

  40. Girlstar April 18th, 2008 2:34 pm

Do you really think Tool is gonna give up anything? I doubt it. But yeah I wish there were a lot more Classic Rock songs and lastest rock songs. I don’t really even know any of the bonus tracks. Hendrix would have kicked ass..Maybe some more RHCP. Some of the songs they chose by the groups were not the best choices.

anytime you need to hit the cowbell you can just smack the microphone against your hand. i bought a mic stand and now all i have to do is smack the mic stand and that works alot better. for anyone who has been thinking about buying the game…go buy it. i was skeptical at first, now i have it and am fully addicted.

  44. Sean August 28th, 2008 11:30 am

People are stupid they say “I wish Led Zeppelin was on it” but Zeppelin wont let any of the rhythm games or movies or tv shows us there songs…the only time you here it on something other then CD(tape or record) it is illegal…The only time it is not is in the School of rock because they asked every day for a year to use 10 seconds of a song…

  45. macabre September 15th, 2008 10:52 am

… of course they don’t have two of the best bands from the 60s and 70s

    Led Zepplin and The Zombies

The only decent band in that list for 70s music is The Ramones, and of course having Nirvana is a plus, you can’t have a music game without a band that is the biggest rip off of the Pixies EVER!!!

  46. tyson October 1st, 2008 8:25 am
