U.S. Military to Receive Free Copies of Halo 3; Democracy Wins Again

InformationWeek reports that U.S. soldiers currently deployed in Iraq will get the opportunity to blast some Communist Covenant scum with complimentary copies of Halo 3, courtesy of Microsoft and Bungie Studios.

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that they are shipping Xbox 360 consoles with copies of Halo 3 and Madden NFL ‘07 to USO centers across the globe. Microsoft even helped the military set up gaming stations at the centers in Iraq where Spartans soldiers can play Halo 3 over Xbox Live. In addition, the troops can talk with family, friends and loved ones back in the U.S. via the XBL voice chat feature. Unfortunately for the Marines, none of the weaponry in the Halo universe were shipped with these stations, so standard-issue battle riffles and assault rifles will have to do for now.

Score one for capitalism, but does Sergeant Major Avery J. Johnson approve of these shenanigans?

At first glance I thought this was going to be a training mechanism or some cheap ploy to get military recruiters to get more sign-ups. This is actually a pretty nice idea, but I would really like to see them get some quality equipment like the hummers that are designed to deflect bomb blasts or land mines, or to just come home, but no need for political bullshit here.
