No surprise here: New Halo game in the works

Now that I have your attention, in a recent interview with Bungie’s Community Leader Brian Jarrard, Bungie has revealed that they are in fact working on yet another game focused in the Halo universe. The game is not a direct sequel to the blockbuster Halo 3, but is rather something mysterious on the side. When asked about Halo 4, Allard responded,

“Well we are already at work on another Halo game — I wouldn’t call it “Halo 4″, but it is based in the Halo Universe and represents a collaboration between Bungie and Peter Jackson. Halo 3 was definitely not the last Bungie Halo game.”

There you have it. Not exactly what I was hoping for (I’m a monster fan of the series), but with the addition of Peter Jackson to the team, this mysterious fourth Halo project will undoubtedly be a welcome addition to an already booming franchise.

Peter Jackson’s Halo game was announced way back at E3 2006 and Bungie has said many times that they are collaborating with him on it. The source just took a quote that is merely confirming old news and blew it out of proportion.

I thought that Microsoft now owns the Halo franchise, and Bungie is no longer a part of Microsoft. I mean, I guess they can still work with it, as long as it’s only released on PC and 360…

Microsoft may not own Bungie anymore, but they are still going to have a partnership and Bungie has said that they haven’t even really thought about moving to other platforms yet. They are still going to be close, Bungie just has a bit more freedom now that they are independent.

That doesn’t mean they won’t branch out eventually, but at least for now Xbox 360 looks like it’ll be their console of choice.
