Clan support coming to Xbox Live in time for Halo 3? [UPDATE]

I was looking through Halo 3 details on my Xbox 360 Dashboard and noticed something interesting. Under Halo 3 > Expand Your LIVE Experience > Online Game Play, it explains a few of the features. One of them stood out - Clans:

Clans are one option for playing ranked matches. A clan is a player-created group for playing ranked matches as a team. With clans, you know the players backing you up are dedicated, and the players you’re going to face will be just as dedicated.

Since it has already been confirmed that clan support is not built in to Halo 3, this must be a feature that is instead built in to Xbox Live - and there have already been rumors that clan support would be added in the next dashboard update. Since this information is reached through a Halo 3 ad and is under “A Guide to Halo 3 Online Game Play,” it must work with Halo 3 - and because that comes out September 25th, unless this is merely a mistake by Microsoft we should be getting the fall dashboard update within the next eleven days. If not, we should at least get a small update that only adds Clan support - but that’s highly unlikely considering how Microsoft does Xbox 360 Dashboard updates.

What do you think? Is the fall Dashboard update coming this soon?

[UPDATE]
Frankie has posted a response in the NeoGAF forums, saying that there will be no clan support in Halo 3 (which we already knew), and while it could possibly be added in a future Dashboard update, it won’t be added in the next one. However, the functionality which will be added to Bungie.net will be far better for clans than what Halo 2 had. Here’s his full post:

There is no clan support in the game.
Clan support may arrive in a future Dash update.
It will not be in the next update.
Players may still form parties at the press of a button.
Ranked Team Games still exist.
Bnet’s relaunch next week will give you FAR better tools to form a Clan than Halo 2 ever did.
Armor customization will make your clan more distinct anyway.
The old clan system was in fact just a second friends list. It had no other functionality whatsoever.

It’s unfortunate that there will be no clan support in the next Dashboard update because it is one of the features that has been requested most by the community. I wonder how this information got posted on the Xbox 360 Dashboard though - I’d imagine not any lowly worker can put things on there, and had to get their information for somewhere. They should really be sure about something before they post it on the Xbox 360 Dashboard for all to see.

    its false.

If it’s false then how did this get listed on the Xbox 360 Dashboard? I would imagine not everyone can just put up information, so some one must have fucked up bad. Also - when asked whether Xbox Live (not Halo 3 specifically) would be getting clan support Frankie said “This question may be better answered by the Xbox Live team,” but now you’re answering it… so are you saying clans in Halo 3 aren’t happening or clan support for Xbox Live isn’t happening?

Microsoft has already said there will be an update before the Halo 3 release. This update will not be the fall update, it is basically preparation for Halo 3, this could be included in that update or we may not see it until the actual fall update.

Sooo…. pretty much, it isn’t false until Halo 3 comes and goes with no update…

Pretty Sure the clan bit is ONLY for Halo, not all of xbox live, test drive unlimited has a similar feature in its clubs

its true i have a friend who knows a head honcho up at bungie. we asked him to look into it and he said that theyve finished the clan features and they were going to update the dashboard no later than november ninth. bungie even posted the updates features on their website (including the clan specs). unfortunately the ninth came around and nothing happened.. and all the specs for the update were removed from bungies website.. sooooo it might be delayed but its definately coming and probably soon
