RUMOR debunked: Halo 3 already arriving at some retailers [Updated]
Pictures of what appears to be the Halo 3 special edition have been posted in the NeoGAF forums. While they look like they could be real, even Bungie’s own employees only got the final version of the game five days ago and it officially went gold two days ago, so having the discs printed and shipped on a large scale already seems unlikely. While the pictures are probably just display cases, there is a chance that stores are getting the game already - and if so, people will find ways to get it for themselves.
However, these pictures aren’t the only evidence of the game being sent out so soon. People who (as far as I know) don’t work for Bungie have been seen online playing Halo 3, so some must already have the game in their possession. Is REDDOGG733 the gamertag of a Microsoft employee, or did some lucky guy get Halo 3 almost a month early?

SketchFactor has cleared these rumors up, stating that the pictures are merely empty boxes and only a few people have the game and aren’t supposed to be playing it on Xbox Live (tell that to Frankie…). Real copies will be leaving the manufacturing plant soon, but no one will be getting official copies until 9/22, when certain members of the press receive theirs. As for REDDOGG733, they don’t know who he is - he could be from Microsoft or Bungie. Here’s SketchFactor’s full post:
We don’t know who REDDOGG is… he could be MS, it may even be someone at Bungie who is out of the office and grabbed a disc.
At this point, a FEW people have legitimate copies of the game. These people are not supposed to be playing the game on Xbox LIVE.
No actual copies are avaialble to any retailers yet. The photos that surfaced earlier were EMPTY promotional/pre-order copies of the game. Many retailers have had these for a while now. It was a hoax.
However, we are just days away from real copies starting to legimitately leave the manufacturing plant. We are doing everything we can to try and keep the game story secret and not have the game get out early but sadly this is probably inevitable. The earliest anyone will officially get a copy is some members of press which will be around 9/22. Reviewers are playing it beforehand but only at Bungie or MGS controlled events. Nobody gets a disc. And then their reviews are under an embargo until 9/23 and even then, they are agreeing to not disclose story spoilers in their articles. We’re trying our best but once this baby gets momentum nobody will be able to contain it.
For now… you should seriously be careful where you go online and what you read. There are jerks out there who will stop at nothing to intentionally ruin your day one game experience. Be warned.
On the plus side… just 25 more days to go. After nearly 3 years, what’s another 3 weeks.

it might be true bcz i can see that the cases are cieled in a plastic coating and it means that the discs are inside em.
i hope its true.
but they are in italy only
so they are of no use for any other region other than Europe

I know for sure that this is a fake, because I have the same thing. It was a promotion where you pre-order Halo 3 and you get a case (which on the bottom says for display only-as you can see on the bottom part of the last pic on the left, he edited it out) with a halo 3 t-shirt.
I am 100% sure it is a fake and people should grow up and stop spreading lies!

And I wasn’t spreading lies - I clearly labeled it as a rumor, and even said I found it unlikely and thought it was probably just a display case. Guess I was right.
If you want, I will let you guys know the day it comes in… not that hard, should be about 7 to 10 days… We are getting the legendary edition in about 4 days before the other versions.. Apparently it will be a 5 by 5 foot pallet that is stacked 12 feet high from what corporate is saying.. We have a lot of reserves on the Legendary, as you can tell.

i knew it was a hoax right away, because why would they ship it there first.americans would be the first to get it. duh.
saw these cases at my local game store awhile ago thought it was strange as they are sealed in plastic but yes they are empty. i gave it a good shake while looking for a fast exit out the shop but was pointless lol

A someone I know got a copy for 50 bucks through some guy that works for technicolor…He put it in his xbox just to make sure it worked…the next day the sheriff and f.b.i were at his house looking for a “microsoft disc”…so he played it through and handed it over….hasn’t heard anything since…except xbox live has banned his console from live forever or some shit
Well, new updated halo 3 info, no game in-stores yet, but we did get the Halo 3 controllers with covenant and spartans on them. Also we got in the Halo 3 Wireless Headsets in and apparently we are getting Halo 3 in in about a week and a half or so… later
Haha, dumbasses. I work at Gamestation and we got these ages ago. They’re called ‘dummy boxes’ >_> They’re empty tins that state what you get with the limited edition of Halo 3, we put little stickers on them that say ‘Take me to the till to pre-order!’ So people bring them up and we slap their name down for a copy. Funny cuz we actually have a laugh fooling customers into thinking we have the proper Halo 3, and they believe us.
I work at movie gallery and have been playing Halo 3 since last thursday seeing as we get the everything in a week early. It’s amazing.
