Manhunt 2, Coming This Halloween

Rockstar Games has confirmed that their controversial game, Manhunt 2, will release on October 31. The game, which will be available for the Wii, PlayStation 2, and PSP, has an M rating.

It was originally given an Adults Only rating by the ESRB back in June. If it had stayed with its AO rating, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and other North American retail chains would refuse to sell the game in its stores. The game is still banned from the UK, and the M rating comes with the content descriptors of Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs.

Sam Houser, Rockstar Games founder, commented on Manhunt 2:

“Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we’re glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience.” He continued, “We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it.”

The game has been modified to bring the content down and earn an M rating from the ESRB. I’m damn sure there will still be the same gritty and gruesome horror that the first game brought us.

I wonder what they took out and changed. Hopefully they reveal that.

It would be pretty cool if they also released the original AO version as a sort of collectors edition. Then the game could be played the way it was meant to be played, but since there would be an M version, Rockstar still gets to make lots of money and the ESRB is happy. Everybody wins.

zizzy, the problem is that Nintendo won’t even let them even press the discs on a AO version. it’s one of their policies.
