Limelight to help stop Xbox Live’s servers from erupting in flames during high demand

In an attempt to improve the reliability and functionality of Xbox Live, Microsoft has partnered with Limelight Networks, who will help them deliver content by unclogging the tubes of the internet:
In a joint statement made Thursday, Microsoft said that Limelight’s expertise in content delivery network services would boost the firm’s online offering by helping to deliver music, films and games via less congested Internet routes
Limelight already helps others like Dream Works, Facebook and MySpace, while competitor Akamai works with Sony and Nintendo. Hopefully, this will speed up downloads when everyone is trying to be the first to get new content, since it can slow to a crawl when something like the Halo 3 beta or BioShock demo is made available.
